Hello,
At about 3pm, with the lovely sound of G-BMSB getting airborne for display at East Kirkby, my attention was drawn to the sky over to the West….to my surprise whilst hoping to glimpse the Spitfire it was a Catalina.?? that was espied….transiting North passing just East of East Kirkby…ie West of here at Spilsby, East Linc’s.
It was in the distance but didn’t look yellow, etc…??
Any thoughts on this..??
Thanks,
Clive.

Nice looking colours, can’t wait for Legends to see it for real. Now if the silver Dutch Cat could stand next to it…

Ta Janie. 🙂
That makes sense – she was still Rasta’d up at Duxford four weeks ago, and I’m not sure whether a full paint strip and repaint would have been feasible since then.
Steve, check out the Plane Sailing Gallery here to view it’s progress from leaving Canada up to it’s recent re-paint. http://catalinabookings.org/gallery.asp

Yes. I have no evidence, but I have a sneeking suspicion the Rasta scheme may still be hiding underneath the white.

I’ve not been following Catalina events closely – is this the Catalina formerly known as Rasta Cat?

Beginning of the fifities, an all white Cat with Army titles in black and green bottom visited Brussels. Unfortunately, no photograph available.

The Catalina arrived back at Duxford sometime between 6pm and 7pm yesterday evening, certainly looks good in it’s new paint scheme.

6,15pm…I summise that may have been the Catalina I have just heard heading South…again in the distance just to the West of Spilsby, E. Lincs…I have been stooging round the garden hoping for an overflight on the way home…can’t win ’em all.!!….pleased enough to have seen it on its way North..
And earlier a Mustang ?? was spotted in the distance out to the East of Spilsby heading South..5,24pm

Very nice, would look better with an RAF roundel though :-p Ah well i’m not that fussed, seeing a Catalina fly is good enough for me

i did a google search and this is from the plane sailing site “where a complete repaint (to a USAAF colour scheme as flown from nearby Halesworth during WWII) is being carried out” i did a search Halesworth Pbys and apparently the 5th ERS was based at Halesworth. i might be completely wrong, but i think this is what the catalina will look like , this is what i found on google searching for 5th ERS catalina-

I must apologise for most of the East Fortune crowd today as most of them had already left by the time the big cat had arrived. But in fairness most of the crowd had been drenched about 4 times by this point if they hadnt sought shelter in the elephant shed (sorry hangar).
