CdG’s deck is coloured as such to assist pilots in a night landing. I asked a French Pilot once, apparently the NVG’s they use show the deck and pilots aim for the dark strip between the lighter bits as that is the landing strip. Makes sence to me, same reason why the Imperial Japanese Navy painted their decks really light colours which aided the USN during the battle of Midway… Aim for sand coloured deck in a dive and you cant miss!

Flight decks have an anti-skid coating that is replaced during refits. It wears in high traffic areas, especially in the landing area where it is constantly scrubbed by cross deck pendants.

Are the Super Hornets capable of landing on CdG ? If so, does anyone have any pics of this?

Also, some pics of Rafale on US CVNs would be nice to see as well.

Ur Question 2: Rafale on the greatest USN carrier ever built.

Maybe it’s some kind of heat reflective paint, or perhaps just a lighter colour 🙂

looks like the landing strip is supposed to be a dark grey/black and the remaining deck a light colour.. yet.. in many cases.. it just seems splotchy all around 😮

Good point, CdG looks pretty shabby, though at least the Frogs have got a carrier. Looks they tried to save money by buying their paint from B&Q.

Probably just the lighter colour of the CdG deck which makes the dirt more noticable.
