Century Wings 1/72 F-14A

I just got one of the Century Wings models in the mail today. This is the one I ordered:

http://www.flyingmule.com/products/CW-590984

If you are into 1/72 jet fighter models, I highly recommend this line. This thing is absurdly detailed, almost to a fault. All of the aerials and antennae are present, and when handling the thing I was afraid I’d bend or break them! I’ve got one of the Dragon Wings 1/72 F-16s, and if I had to make a comparison between the two lines I’d have to say that the Century Wings Tomcat is in fact vastly superior in terms of detail and accuracy. Even the weapons are fully detailed with the proper markings and such. They’re also far easier to mount than the weapons on the Dragon Wings line as well.

The only drawback to the Century Wings models are that they are all limited pieces. This one I got is limited to 1000 pieces, so if you want one, find it and buy it or risk not seeing it around again.

This makes four 1/72 jet fighters on my shelf now, a VF-84 Tomcat, Washington DC ANG F-16, and Russian Su-34 and Su-47. This new guy is easily the standout piece.

I think you misunderstand, I’m looking for a diecast model, not a kit, as I have absolutely no skill at those whatsoever 😀

Nope, but perhaps you’re interested in two surplus AIM-54 without any paint or markings? Delivery by mail? 😀

My 1:72 Tomcat model carries Sparrows, Sidewinders and a single TARPS (?) pod. I never bothered to assemble the Phoenix missiles.

Here’s a question for you lot, I’m looking around at a lot of the other F-14 models available from various lines, and I can’t find anyone who has one with a full six AIM-54 loadout. Anyone know of one?

They are more expensive than other lines, but the detail makes up for it I think. I’ve got a $300 1/200 Tu-160 that is nowhere near the quality of the F-14. Then there’s the Gaincorp line, which are notoriously inaccurate and flawed. This has to be the best line I’ve seen so far WRT detail and accuracy.

Witty Wings are cheap and cheerful as well, other than the Sea Fury. I had a Spitfire VIII with the pilot way to far back. I can recommend Hobby Master and Gemeni Aces for detail (and cost…)

check this F-104 out, F-100 soon as well, heard rumours of a P-61 next year. IXO do a huge range but the quality varies.

I’m a sucker for die-casts…. I have 4 century wings now, the F-14 “locked for take off” with nose wheel compressed, A-6, A-7 and F-8 – all superb as you say. A bit more pricey than some, Hobby Master for example do some superb jet aircraft in 1/72, I was tempted today with a Mirage 2000 at only £25 – my F-8 was £40….

century wings 1/144 F-14 is excellent as well if space is a problem – it is for me, I just picked up a 1/48 scale B-24…….
