I was sent theses last night and thought you guys would be interested. Sent by a friend in the US. It makes a nice change from the ‘Spitty-Madness’ on here.

The majority of us wouldn’t have a hope of being able to run any of the ‘big stuff’, something like this is perhaps slightly more realistic. I believe it’s also for sale.

Gun pods? not at all sure about that, I’ll ask.

Performance would be interesting; there’s a large 6 cyclinder attached to that small airframe:D It’s a bit of a rarity so far as Cessna’s go since it has a ‘stick, not a yoke.

Good on the you for starting this thread.

It’s always interesting to hear about aircraft that aren’t usually talked about.

I get sick of the Spits and ‘Stangs because that’s all anyone on this forum wants to talk about.

Thanks for giving it some variety.

Interesting about the “display” rockets.

If I’m not mistaken O-1’s could also carry small .30-caliber gun pods under the wings as well.

Quite a good little FAC during Vietnam.

oops….

PhantomII: Yes, it’s an 0-1 Birddog. We don’t tend to see much of the smaller types on here and I thought it would make a change.

Re the rocket installation> I got the wrong end of the stick when the owner said they were used for display purposes, should have been ‘static display purposes’ 😮 ….

Here’s the correction:
The rocket launcher installation on this aircraft is approved by the FAA and has an STC. The MA-4A racks are original. The launchers are exact

replicas manufactured from Cessna Drawings but are non functional and cannot be made to operate. The Rockets carried in the launchers are inert with dummy aluminum heads and are rendered inoperable. There is no wiring in the wings from the launcher installation to the cockpit. The installation is strictly for display purposes and is totally non-functional.

mmitch, Yes, I quite agree. I must admit that I found it surprising too. The rounds are phosphor and used (presumbly they are also issued by the US Military) for displays at airshows and for film.

I would have thought the Dept. of Home Security will be a little nervous about letting that fly. 🙂

The rocket launchers are 4.75 inch and they are ‘live’ and used for display purposes. They fire phosphourus rounds.
