Here are a few pictures taken on my visit to CFB Mountainview Ontario this weekend. CFB Mountainview is used by the Canadian Air Force as a storage site for their retired Military Aircraft. Some airframes are still stored in the open while those with better futures are stored within the old base hangars. The only airframes that are currently stored outdoors are the Canadair CT-114 Tutors, Canadair CT-133 T-birds and Canadair CF-5 Freedom Fighters. In total I counted maybe 47 airframes outside. I believe some of the recently retired T-birds are kept in a state of what they call “flyable preservation” while the Tutors and the CF-5’s seem very unlikely to fly ever again…
In the various hangars I spotted at least one Buffalo, a handful of Kiowa Helicopters and many more Tutors and CF-5’s all looking a little more complete and flyable…

DND do have a directorate of disposals and sales but I am not sure if they deal directly with the public….

That’s great..at least another will be saved from the scrap man…We have tried to acquire a Tutor for a while now but nothing has come of it yet..it might be that they are not comfortable selling to private individuals for static displays but we will continue to try…

Yes I think I managed to take a picture of ever Tutor stored outside at MW…I would luv to adopt one and take one home…I can post more if you wish?
