I’ve just got CFS3 but rather distressingly the arrow keys on the number pad (with number lock off and on) do not enable me to manouver at all. I’ve tried allocating other keys to the controls but still nothing.
Has anyone else encountered this problem or have any suggestions
Thanks

Though the IL2 series is showing its age, it is still the best WWII flight sim out right now. With its ability to interact with scourched earth you can fly whole squadrons against enemy air and ground targets rather realisticly (for a russian made flight sim) If you do not mind the P-51 acting anything but a P-51 and the Mossi being a slow hunk of wood..its a good game.
LoMAC is the best of the modern sims but is very complicated and turns a lot of people off.
Waiting for the new BoB from the makers of IL2

Thanks for the advice, I will give it a go, although no chance of cannon on a Mk1 Hurri!

Best way I find to hit the He-111 on any flight sim, is to come at it from the 12 o clock high, sweeping down from the sun, piling rounds down the fusilage before banking away. If you hit her just right, maybe with a few cannon shells in the mix for good measure, you should destroy the bird on the first pass -or at least cripple her- without being hit by the gunners. Then repeat on the wing if it’s still there, hopefully seperating it from the aircraft. That usually does the trick for me.

“All went well with an initial mission in a Hurricane in France (wooden two-blade prop version) in support of the BEF during Spring 1940.
Mission two was simply to get the same Hurri, now a little care-worn, back to blighty. Simple enough task I thought and planned a logical route back with the intention of crossing Cap Gris Nez to Dover as any pilot of a damaged single might do.”
Interesting, I have just got CFS3s with the same add -on, no probs getting back from France, but cannot get to grips with the bombers on the initial mission, I always get shot down. I thought those He111’s were only meant to have a couple of miserable pop- guns pointing out the back?? 🙂

They are right. CFS3 IS crap. I think we should be told!

There was a thread on joysticks if it helps you choose one Lord Kenley, the link is http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=27554&highlight=force+feedback
I managed to get a Microsoft force feed back 2 joystick that works with XP. Unfortunately you cannot buy these anymore. I did have a Logitec wingman with force feedback but they are not as good.

Thanks for all your suggestions, CFS3 is probably in the post by now so if it turns out to be a load of ‘poo’ i’ll know what to bid on E Bay.
Thanks again and i’ll let you know what i think of CF3 when i get it.

The other fast jet option worth considering is LOMAC (LockOn-Modern Air Combat) which can be fouind for under a tenner if you shop around.
Can you tell I’m fond of a bargain ?

or if you want a modern flight sim you could go for Falcon 4: Allied Force which is an update of the earlier version with graphics almost on a par with I-L2. It takes a while to learn though.
The best combat sims imho are the IL2 series – skip the original and pick up IL2-Forgotten Battles for about a fiver on a ‘budget’ label. You can then ‘add on’ the Aces Expansion pack and Pacific Fighters as and when time/budget allows.
HTH,
Bruce
Bruce speaks the truth. There ain’t no comparison. The IL2 series are even less system intensive than CFS3 and run faster on lower spec machines, yet you can’t fault the graphics.

I’ll do that Moggy.
As a matter of interest, in your opinion, what’s the best flight sim ( where you can fire you guns) available on the PC?
I’ve only recently upgraded my PC to a spec that will run the modern simulators and i would value your opinion…maybe i should have asked you before handing over my cash for CFS3 even though it didn’t break the bank (it’s only £9.96 on Amazon).

So CFS3 is a ‘crock of poo’, great and i’ve just ordered a copy (with a copy of the add on disc, Firepower).
Please, once you’ve got it up and running post a report here. I’d be interested in your views.
I even tried the Battle of Britain extension for it, in an attempt lose the historical inaccuracies that bug the out of the box version.

I didn’t make it. I was shot down by the flak guns around a V1 launch site near the French coast

All is not lost – if you like WW1 aircraft and really must insist on playing CFS3 try it with this : http://off.oldbrowndog.net/downloads.htm

Thanks very much – looks like I’d better get a joystick then!

Difficult because I’m only a half-hearted simmer so can’t make any comparisons as the only one I know is the one that I use.
This is a USB Cyborg 3D, the modern equivalent being
It’s useful to have the twist action for the rudder, buying a separate set of pedals is far too committed for me, whilst landing without a rudder is that much harder.
Lots of buttons to programme, left or right-handed configurable, handy throttle lever.
I’m sure others will come along and recommend alternatives.
CFS3 was a crock of poo. A few weeks after it was launched, and when the first major patch failed to solve any of the problems, a lot of people stopped playing with it. It could be that it has been improved over the years, but for anybody with historical knowledge the thought of a massed German invasion fleet in the Channel in 1944 is a bit difficult to come to terms with.
However somebody here has posted about a free WW1 flight sim that uses CFS3 as its base. That might be worth a look at.
Regards
Rob

Any particular joystick you could recommend?
