In any museum there is always more to see than that put on display in the public areas of the museum, so its nice to see that the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop is going to open up its store cupboards.

Whilst not as large as the RAF or Fleet Air Arm Museums there’ll be some interesting items not seen for a long time. I’ll also be interested to see how they do it as I know the museum’s workshop contains a helicopter that the Director of Special Forces has forbiden to be put on public display.

Indeed he probably isn’t a ‘spotter’ but then again he might be ! Either way its a strange state of affairs!
Maybe the museum should send him a link to one of the sites with pictures and see if he reconsiders!

I agree but I fear that the DSF isn’t a spotter so doesn’t know the information is out there.
BTW the aircraft does carry a serial but its in black on a dark charcoal grey background.

I wonder how long the museum can justify storing a helicopter for that might not go on display.

Its what is not on it that makes it special.
The FAA museum would have had the same condition placed on their A109, but they got around it by repainting it in its original Argentenian markings.

Right – if they have an Augusta A109 in storage which cannot go on display – yet you can see one at Yeovilton the easiest answer is to say thanks for the helicopter but we don’t really want it unless it can go on display!
I have never heard anything as daft . Clearly its just a ‘109’ with maybe a few
missile warning detectors added.
