Surrey Air Ambulance open day sunday 31/5/09 11 am.
Their helicopter is based at Dunsfold Aerodrome so a good chance to support this very important a/c…
but also easy access to a historic airfield…weather forecast good 😀

I saw one of the model jets flying a few weeks ago (L139 ??) fantastic…sounds great

odds ‘n’ sods
You might never believe that this pic was taken on an airfield,it is the open top bus taking more punters on the ‘top gear’ tour…travelling along the old southern taxyway past the house which I believe was used by 1 or 2 of the old Hawker Test pilots, incidentally the house is on the ‘compass gate ‘ exit road which was originally the A281 – cut off by the airfield construction and a new by-pass built. The main entrance on northside was also originally the A281.

According to my Willis/Hollis book, the landing area surface was concrete/wood chippings, this I believe could be some of original surface on the old 21/03 rwy

sorry about the ‘naval angle’ of some of the pics…it was an old bus and ‘snap’ shots!!

Does anyone know about the Seahawk in the pictures?

Baz – thanks for posting these pictures.
Was there any flying activity at the open day?
I had read that there were some helicopter pleasure flights taking place, but wondered if there was anyting else happening.
I was actually up on the Gibbett at Hindead this afternoon, and took a quick look through the binoculars at the airfield to see if I could see anything, but there didn’t appear to be much happening!
Anyway, looking forward to this years Wings & Wheels show, which sadly could be the last one and it will be interesting to see what the Government decides in September regarding the future of this unique airfield.
Like many, I’d hate to see it go. 🙁
Cheers
Paul
