Hello All,
These pics were taken at Chandler Memorial Airfield south of Phoenix Arizona in Dec 1997, some are by now probably long gone. This airfield is not to be confused with Chandler Municipal which is a GA airport 3 or 4 miles to the east.
Images are :- 1. DC-7C N90804, 2. DC-7B N4885C, 3. DC-7C N5902, 4. C-54D Skymaster N44915, 5. C-130 N118TG, 6. ex US Navy Sikorsky UH-19F, 7. UH-19F line up in scrap compound. 8. Dash 7 N701AC Far West AL, I will post some more from this visit soon, in the meantime, hope you like.

Managed a brief visit there at the end of April – my first visit since 1986!
Only saw 4 C-54s, a DC-7, 2 x PV-2 Harpoons and a Howard 500.
Didn’t see any H-19s.

I have just found the photos I took the last time I was there in September 2006. We arrived late in the day and were told they were about to close. We had about 10 minutes to have a look around.

Final 3
Hi All,
Herewith the final 3 from my Chandler archive, RMR, thanks for the info on the 7, will be busy now looking up its history, it is the one just behind the DC-4 in the 1st pic, that particular aircraft has the word Macavia on the nose. FLY.BUY, it was interesting to find out that the African Queen was an ex BOAC example……before its war service:D. Hampden98, I think Aeropick Tours still exist, but I can imagine they have crossed off Chandler from their intinerary, as the updates from you fella’s mean there would not be much to see in 2012:(.
Pic 1. Macavia? DC-4, 2. Pacific Air Express DC-4 with non-standard radome, 3. Tried to squeeze in as many Douglas propliners in one pic, all are depicted in my previous posts here, with what looks like a Piper PA 25 Pawnee sandwiched between the first 2, thanks again to all:).

just one other but unidentified DC-7 here, thanks
Gerry
Your unidentified Dc.7 is N6000V c/n 45542.
Seen here from the other side in October 1989. You can clearly make out where the registration had been removed.

You must have missed them. I have a couple of bad photos taken of them in 2006, and the website mentioned in post #3 has a photo c.2006 with 50+ in the compound.

Was there in 1998. Don’t remember the Choppers, did they go in 97 or maybe I just missed them.
Chandler was a favourite for George Pick Aerotours. Are the tours still going?

Unidentified DC-7
Thankyou to all for the replies, RMR, excellent history and future plans (if they come to fruition) on Chandler on that website you gave. Remarkable too how those UH-19 hulks can still be used for modern conversions.
Finger trouble on my last post, the sharp eyed will have noticed pic 4 was a DC-7B and 5 was the DC-4, just one other but unidentified DC-7 here, thanks again.

Dc-7C African Queen, I believe the cockpit remains, interesting history ex BOAC DC-7c seven seas, Eventually ended up as a freighter, shot at and hit by a SAM missile over the sharah desert during the Moroccan or Algerian war? It was mistaken for a C130 Hercules from the ground. Pilot managed to make an emergency landing t a nearby airfield.

The H-19 airframes have been relocted to Case Grande, Arizona for future possible conversion into S-55 Whistercopters…turbine conversions with 5 blade rotor systems.

I have not been there since 2006.
There was not much remaining then.
This website gives some more up to date info.
