Channel Island services

I may be going to the CI this summer for a holiday. does anyone know what the flights have been scheduled to operate, my local airport is Liverpool. BMI normally offer a service to JER, plus some charters also run during the summer season. I was thinking of going to Alderney, does anyone know whats it like ? i guess the best way is to take one of the shuttle flights across from JER ?

RE: Channel Island services

Well i believe someone was over here in GCI from BA but it was not to tell the GTA that the ae stopping LGW flights as the Guernsey evening post had reported.
Anyway some other C.I news is that Tyrolean are to introducea summer charter to Vienna using CRJ’s from JER,also Braathens will start there charters again from oslo and bergan using 737-5000/800’s.VLM would serve Muchengladbach,Antwerp,London city,Humberside,Rotterdam,Hannover and it is rumoured that Munich may be another destination served this year. All flighs willgo via GCI except LCY.

In my opinion BA are only interested in LHR anyway, forget the rest of the country.

RE: Channel Island services

Heres some GCI news,it is rumoured that tomorrow (29/01/02)BA are coming over to GCI to meet the GTA (Guernsey transport authority)to tell them that they will be ending the LGW-GCI flights,if that happens i will be totaly anti BA,more than i am now!
Anyway keep you posted,Liverpool airport looks very modern!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-01-02 AT 00:09 AM (GMT)]Yup,Corbiere lighthouse is on the southwestern tip of jersey, down near st Ouens bay.
Also, you do not have a hope in hell of Easyjet or Ryanair operating into Jersey as the landing fees are to high, which is a real pity as people want low prices, but the local states,or if you like ‘county council’are not doing a thing about lowing them.
Theres a picture of Corbiere lighthouse as well.

RE: Channel Island services

I can’t remember exactly when Air corbiere were operating, but it was an operating name of Air Atlantique. I think the name Air Corbiere (probably incorrect spelling !) was used for the CI association. Isn’t there a Corbiere lighthouse in the CI somewhere ??

Anyway from memory i did the trip about 5-6 years ago.

Not sure when my visit might be I guess the summer.

Shame Easyjet doesnt do a regular service JER-LTN or LGW & JER-LPL. That would bring prices down and encourage new visitors.

RE: Channel Island services

Thanks for all the info ! I do not know any of the CI well. Last time I was there I went for a long weekend in GCI, and spent quite a bit of time on the beach at Herm, which was very nice. At that time we had a very handy service operated by Air Corbiere. It was daily from Liverpool to the CI and we stopped at Coventry on the way, but I dont remember any stop on the return. I know they also stopped at Gloucester instead of Coventry on some flights. We flew on a Metroliner, although I beleive they substituted this with other aircraft from their fleet from time to time. This included a DC3 one day, which i understand slightly alarmed the awaiting passengers in LPL !! Great shame they stopped operating the route as I understand it was quite well supported, it even operated through the winter months .

RE: Channel Island services

BMI operate a fokker 100 flight from Liverpool on a sunday arriving around 14:10 (this was last year)and it departs around 09:00 sundy mornigns,i am pretty sure this will run again next year.BA regional operated ever a dash 8 or ATP (not sure) on the saturday charter last year.
getting to Alderney is pretty easy from Jersey.Aurigny operate around 5 flights a day in the hight of summer with their trislanders, you can book at the aurigny office just next to the arrivles hall.BE WARNED THE FLIGHTS ARE EXPENSIVE!!!Around £70 for a 30 minute trip which i think is perfetic.Air X ltd,who are based in Alderney might start serving JER-ACI with a trislander and they promise to be quite cheap.
Now,Alderney is a little boring, there is not exactley much to do,but i suppose it would be different for you as you’ve never been there before. The island is very beautiful, only 8 miles from france, lovely beaches,1 golf course, nice pubs/restraunts and great for walks.
Try these websites for more info: http://aurigny.com
http://www.jersey.com/
http://travel.alderney.net/
The channel islands are beautiful, remember to do some aircraft spotting at JER,one lands near renougth every 5 minutes in the summer!!

RE: Channel Island services

Well if u can’t get owt from there u can get quite a lot from EGNM (Leeds). Bmi operated this summer each weekday with a Emb-135 and a F100, and at weekends there was a bmi 735, F100 and F70 sched’d at peak times. BRAL also flew a ATP but i don’t know whether that was a private charter flight. The flights between Alderney and Jersey are operated by Aurigny by Trislander if my memory serves me right!!
