Charles Church warbirds

Apologies if this has been covered before, but what warbirds did Charles Church have in his possession at the time of his death? And where are these now??

From off the top of my head:

Spitfire Tr.9 PT462 – still with us in the UK;
Spitfire XIV SM832 – flying in the USA;
Spitfire IX PL344 – flying in the USA (forget who with now, though);
Mustang G-SUSY – owned by the family of the late Paul Morgan;
Spitfire XVI RR232 – ?
Hurricane G-ORGI – now with Ed Russell in Canada
Pilatus P.2 G-CJCI – still flying in the UK in its pseudo-Luftwaffe scheme;
the ex-Strathallan Lancaster and Battle….

Well, I’m “current” on PC-based warbirds, if that helps! :p

I’ll offer an opinion when I’ve had the opportunity to examine the aircraft. Preferably from the rear cockpit, in the air. Got to be thorough, you know!

RR232

I am pretty certain that ‘232 remains a mono-seat.

MH

Only ‘pretty certain’ then – but not absolutely sure?

OK, I got the latter one confused – there was much toing and froing at the time!

Mark12 – yes only fairly sure, but I will see if I can find out for sure!

NH799

I don’t recall NH799 ever going that route, although I well remember SM832 and MV262 shuttling backwards and forwards between TFC and Charles Church.

To Bitteswell circa October 1985

Sold to Stephen Grey/TFC/or whatever July/August 1986.

No references to Charles Church in my log.

Oh, and I’m fairly sure that RR232 hasnt been converted to two seater. Bruce

Bruce,

Only ‘fairly’ sure then – not certain?

Ah well!

Ah – a difference of opinion! I was surprised at the suggestion from Mark 12 but I have not seen RR232 recently so cannot add anything.

I heard the story about RW382 as well (another one I remember well!), but lets wait and see.
