Hi All,
Had a good day yesterday meeting up with Sam McCrimmon, Adam Dowley, Adam Kendall and another of their friends called Adam! (From now on referred to as Adam, AD and AK!) The weather was, shall we say, not with us. Not even remotely, and we spent a large chunk of our estimated (on Google Earth) 4 miles walking in the torrential rain! I was even at ISO320 for a few shots. Not good considering I hate going above ISO160!
Anyway, these aren’t particularly good, but here goes!

Keep up the good work!!

Good selection there. I was supposed to make the journey up aswell, however an early finish on friday involving the pub until early Saturday morning put pay to that idea.
The shot with the landing and departing a/c is good plus it looks like you got the light in the end on your adventure.

Rain, mud, getting lost, walking for miles, falling off walls…ah I havent had a good day out like that for ages now!
Great stuff Paul, must try and meet up with you again somewhere over the summer sometime!

I can’t believe I missed two postable A330 shots the first time round! Stupid PMN!
Your obsession with A330’s is like my obsession with the B737-800 or Dreamliner! Kinda worrying!
Do you think we should see one someone about this………….

If I need to use neat image, I tend to get rid of the grain first and then sharpen.
Yup, but I just need to know how much sharpness you can recover. I’ll wait and see what magic Mr Dowley can work! Thanks for your comments, Alex. I’ll let you know how I get on with it!

Yeah I’ve heard of it but I’m yet to be convinced it works well (to my eyes) without losing sharpness, although Adam Dowley is processing a few images for me to see, so I may yet be converted. I don’t so much worry about shooting at higher than ISO200, I just don’t like it! Not for aviation anyway. I’ll sometimes shoot non-aviation stuff at ISO3200 because I actually want the effects of the noise you get. Most of the time if I need to go above ISO200 shooting aviation there just isn’t enough light anyway, and finding a pub is a much better option. 🙂 Paul
Lol mate.
If I need to use neat image, I tend to get rid of the grain first and then sharpen. The higher the settings you use, the blurrier the shots will look – as I imagine neat image blurs out the pixels/noise.
Totally agree with Sam. That PIA 773 shot is a cracker.

Stunning shots mate – Gotta love the PIA 773ER fogged up, looks like you had a good day!
By: PMN - 22nd June 2007 at 18:37
Anymore?
Cheers, Tom! I don’t really have any more of ‘DCL’, but I did find these!

Beautiful shots, mate! Love ‘Dreamliner’ of course, as well as the PIA 777 shot. 🙂
Anymore? ;):diablo:

Lance, yes you did warn me, but when have I ever let that stop me going and getting wet?! 😀
Thanks for your comments so far, all!
Great shots. I wouldn’t worry about shooting at ISO250 though. I do it all the time and edit out the grain later.
Ever heard of a program called ‘Neat Image’?

Fantastic shots Paul! It was great to finally meet up with you; I hope you werent too shocked at our behaviour, hehe. It may have been wet, but it was still great fun. Did you enjoy your Carling and Ginsters meal?
Incidentally, my IR filter arrived yesterday morning, I have yet to take it out and play with it.

And a quick link, for no purpose other than to wind Adam Spalding up. :diablo:
No that is just mean! 😮
Haha only joking! Paul some great shots mate, and although the weather was poor, you still managed to capture some great pictures.
Would it be a suprise if i said that the pick of the bunch for me was the Dreamliner!!! Ooooo can’t wait to go back to Dublin 😀
Sorry to hear the weather wasn’t very good. Obviously you didnt have the right Adam up in Manchester with you that day. Last time, I remember there was this one Adam that brought some fantastic weather up from Bristol with him 😀

We decided to try find the spot that looks straight down 05L/23R. Wrongly thinking we could get there from the north side of the airfield, off we went on foot, only to walk over a mile and discover (after a phone call to the fountain of knowledge for all things MAN, i.e. Grey Area), that we were in completely the wrong place! We eventually found it, although not before the heavens opened and we all ended up thoroughly soaked! Terrible shots I know, but at least you can get an idea of the potential this spot has in good weather. On the way back from this spot both myself and AD very nearly slipped down a rather steep, muddy and prickly plant infested track. All good fun!

The movement highlights of the day for me were the rather fine looking Great Wall 74, unfortunately captured here at ISO250 in terrible light:

And an aircraft that could brighten up the dullest of says. Ryanair’s superb looking Dreamliner:

Just one last aviation shot taken in a very small window of almost perfect light. It was a shame it didn’t last!

Finally, any kind of meet thread wouldn’t be complete without a bit of randomness!
AD, Adam, and an A320…

Adam, AD, AK and Sam as we head through the tunnel trying to find the spot at the end of the runway with the streaks of falling rain visible!

Two very random shots from my A540 as we were wandering round!

Adam, trying to lessen the glare of the rain clouds:

Sam shooting… Something…

In light of the lack of… Err… Light, I decided to shoot the brightest thing I could see! I love my Bigma, and Photoshop!

Earlier in the day the stress had gotten too much for AK to cope with and he just randomly started screaming to the Weather Gods. I also cracked later in the evening, and ended up on the wet ground outside the Airport pub worshipping a pint of Carling. I’m sure someone’ll post a photo of that at some point!

Another random of AK:

Sam, Adam, AD and AK, taken shortly after AD somehow managed to fall off the wall!

And that’s pretty much it! Thanks for a good day guys, it was nice to finally meet you all and thanks, Sam for driving!
