Cheapest way to fly on a 747

Good evening all,

As the heading says….

I have never flown on a 747 and would like to try this year – doesn’t even have to be both ways just one way will do
I realise the aircraft types can change at a moment’s notice but willing to take the risk, Any suggestions please?

Thanks in anticipation
Tim

I was lucky and got paid for flying in it as cabin crew for Air Atlanta Icelandic (before AA Europe days). That’s your cheapest way if they ever come back to LGW to do regular charter work.

ElAl used to operate 747’s to Tel Aviv, not sure if they do anymore though

BA use 747’s to Egypt and Dubai.

Indeed… And these are probably the shortest regularly scheduled 747 flights ex UK on UK airlines. The other possibility that comes to mind is Tel Aviv – either directly on El Al or Lufthansa do flights from London to Tel Aviv via Frankfurt with a 747 on some FRA-TLV-FRA sectors with prices starting at around £370.

Not that it’s of any use, but ANZ have been operating $50 NZD flights to or from Christchurch for the relief effort, with a couple of 747 rotations a day.

Not gauranteed a 747 according to the BA website. Could only find 777 flights to JFK.

Nevermind… now all I find are 747s on the JFK flights.

The first (random) dates I stuck into the website for May brought up a handful of 747 flights every day.

New York is a cheaper option at £374(ish) return.

I don’t know if SQ use the 747 on this flight though.

They only operate the 777 into MAN, Peter, but it’s a nice thought!

Maybe a cheap flight on a tag-along? Singapore Airlines fly from Singapore to Manchester via Munich. You can book tickets on the MAN-MUC flight and back, which are likely to be much cheaper then any long-haul flight you can think of. I don’t know if SQ use the 747 on this flight though.

Cathay will introduce AMS-CDG-AMS late next month as a tag-on to the existing HKG flight. At the moment Cathay uses the 747 into AMS though in the past they have used A340s.

VS and BA are the only indigenous airlines of the UK operating regular 747 flights. So if you want to fly from the UK, they are your best bet for a 747. BA being the safest bet, as they have appear to only operate 747s on certain routes.

A couple of examples for you:
LHR – JFK From £506.93

LHR – SFO From £599.93
