Cheated out

England were cheated out tonight. The referee was a disgrace. Not only was our disallowed goal a goal, but there were many completely fair tackles by our players on the Portugese and they had free kicks, and then when the Portugese fouled us many times he didnt do anything about it.
Not only this but the referee should have moved the penalty kicks up to the other goal. Either a terrible referee or a biased referee. He was far too far away to disallow that goal. An IDIOT.
(If you dont like football, dont go whining below that you dont care, if you didnt care you wouldnt have read this thread).

Football? It’s either in your blood..or it ain’t. Don’t try to understand it if you already can’t :p

It was summed-up beautifully in an ages-old documentary on telly called “The Knockers” (the ne’er-do-wells who flog dusters and ironing board covers door-to-door) where one of ’em put it so succinctly thus:

β€œYou’re either football or you’re Muggy Bonehead.”

The World Cup and the European Championships are all very well…a time for those that follow cr@p sides from the lower leagues to see some decent football (check the flags in the crowd). Most of my mates will only be cheering on the lads from the teams they support. Only time I got into the game last night was JT’s knock down to Lampard when he scored the equalizer. C’mon you Blue Boys!

Flood, far too easy to sneer down your nose at it. What goes on during the 90 minutes is only a minor part of it! I would never have been to half the cities I have, nor got to know a fraction of the people I do, if it weren’t for schlepping round the UK and Europe watching The Chels. If you’ve never done a week-long Jolly Boys’ football trip to a city like Milan, Barca, Prague, Rome, Palma, The ‘Dam or Berlin I can promise you that you have missed out BIG style πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Steve

EDIT: well sh@g me old muvva’s boots, but ain’t the www a right triffic place!?

People say “IT’S PRIDE IN THEIR COUNTRY” but I notice a distinct lack of flag’s on cars to-day. Hows that for PRIDE or is it only when a gang of OVERPAID and UNDERWORKED POOFTERS kick (and they dont seem to do this so well) a football around???, WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE TIME.

…perhaps the better ones in these teams could receive a hero staus of sorts.

What – more than real heroes (nurses, doctors, police, firefighters, rescue workers on the sea, moor, and mountain, etc) deserve or get?
They get paid for what they do, they get themselves in the press (with the help of their publicity agents, usually), and they kick a ball around. Now you want to erect statues to them or something???

Sorry, but I’m with Flood on this one. I’m immensley proud of my country, which, incidentally, I would describe as Britain, not England (or should I say Ing-ger-land) The xenophobic waving of the English flag by a minority (even with viewing figures of 25 million, that is LESS than 50% of the UK population), whipped up into a form of collective hysteria by the media, makes me almost ashamed to be English (but not British).
The real heros (saying as ‘Spitfire Ace’ aired recently) are people of the like of Peter Brothers, Robert Doe, Geoff Wellum and any number of the 609 pilots that Snapper does a fantastic job reminding us of .
To suggest that young men of lowly IQ and dubious morality kicking a piece of inflated leather between a pair of sticks are somehow ‘heroes’ stretches the definition of the word ‘hero’ to absurd extremes.

I second that motion but i have a proviso. Its better than shooting at each other and making things and people go bang. Thats what the likes of Hugh Dundas, Ginger Lacy et al fought for. So long as we are not trying to bomb the sh1t out of each other perhaps the better ones in these teams could receive a hero staus of sorts. If you see what I mean?

Whether England were cheated or not makes no difference – the authorities won’t restage the whole match and England still lost, whatever.
Going around feeling that the referee was incompetant might make you feel better now (without facing up to the situation) but will just harbour ill feeling against referees in general. It is well known amongst football fans that the referee always favours the opposition anyway – whichever side you play on.
99.9% of the whiners here have nothing concrete to moan about except that England lost. Give it a rest: it is over for another year – Nermal

Does that answer my question?

We had trouble here in Jersey last night, which wasn’t unexpected with the biggest Portuguese population in the British Isle. I hasten to add it wasn’t one sided both groups of ‘fans’ were to blame.

Is it possible that England was cheated?

I’m not saying that Barnowl I am saying that I don’t like being tarred with this brush and they ‘might’ be right about the ref. Just because somebody brings up the possibility doesn’t make it inplausible. I agree with you that Portugal deserved to win and I agree that all this crap that the so called fans do is really beginning to **** me off. I mean surrounding a pub in Thetford because it was full of Portugal fans!!!!!!!!!!!! What was that all about? ******s the lot of them, a shameful bunch of inbreeds who need a good long prison sentence and a damn good kicking. See how they like it. But the ref was crap, he disallowed a perfectly good goal and I don’t want to be accociated with the ****s who cause trouble. Well done Portugal 99.9% of English arn’t they way these pricks make us look and Britain certainly isn’t like that.

Guys calm down calm down! As many have said it was ONLY a game. A game that had a insanely twisted ref, granted, but still ONLY A GAME!!! And if England had played better on the night there wouldn’t be this argument. Portugal were amazing, keeping posesion and only giving it back when the shot went wide. It is absolutly disgraceful that England (and unfortunatly by association British) ‘fans’ (and i use that term broadly) feel the need to retaliate by smashing things. Its EXACTLY this kind of thing that will get England THROWN OUT of competitions. But then it’ll all be the ref’s fault won’t it…

Oh right. Just so’s I know.

So maybe you should take a step back and have a look at the whole rotten game.
The lads didn’t win – and yet all that our friendly ‘fans’ here can mostly come up with is that the ref was biased and that we were cheated. Why not just accept that England were not the best team on the pitch – if they were then they would not have had to rely on getting equalisers and penalty shoot-outs, would they.
But that won’t be good enough for you. It will be personal for you, now. You will be fired up by the red-top dailies into believing that Portugal is the big enemy and everytime England plays them it is in the national interest to destroy their international reputation. The way that German was always built up to be the big foe got a young Russian boy stabbed to death in Sussex a few years ago, after England was beaten (again) by the Germans – those ‘true fans’ deciding that it was enough that he had a foreign accent.
Never mind, just a few years to wait to show them it was just a fluke…

Flood.β„’

Flood by and large I agree with you but you are in sore danger of tarring us all with the same brush. Please don’t. Also is it possible that they are right about the ref? Is it possible that England was cheated?

It is only a game. It does not affect anything in life except by people who feel that it is akin to chest-beating and sabre-rattling.

It is an irrelevant game. And before you accuse me of having no pride for our country, tell me the date that you personally swore the oath of allegiance to Her Majesty, Her Heirs and Successors etc etc. I swore that in 1990 and have never regretted it. I have always lived up to it.

I know that you dont support the thug element, wouldn’t dream of accusing you of that. But, my eyes are open and have always been so.

I’m off to bed now, so I depart offering you my hand.

Night all.

I swore it in 1985 do I count?

Yes. But it pervades all walks of life. The fact , for example, (good chaps as most of you are) that none of you lot on here call me sir is disgraceful.

Sorry sir. πŸ˜€

“Snapper i totallty disagree with you but will take your offer of the hand and respect your opinion”

That’s something then. Likewise.

Here’s the full details on the Thetford pub. Bloody local TV only showed it on the news the previous night – “there will be a bunch of Pork n’ Beans in there chaps”:

England might have won the penalty shoot out if it hadn’t been for Ms David Beckham cocking up “his” penalty attempt!! No wonder everyone was laughing at “him”, making a total balls up as usual πŸ˜€

And some people think “he” is the best in the world!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
