check out this great site, 11 years of work!

A friend of ours has finally finished an epic task, he has been logging lost bombers. This has taken him years, 11 to be precise, and at the grand age of 76 he has finally managed to collate all the information into a great website that enables you to search for a lost bomber, crew member etc.

Do check it out, great for research etc, and if you do take a look I know he’d be chuffed to bits if you would leave him a note with your feedback.

An astounding achievement. I typed in my surname and over a dozen bombers with crew losses came up on the database. Every entry gave me pause for thought, esp. as my late Grandfather had been a tail gunner on Halifaxes but was fortunate to survive the war. It could so easily have been different…

I couldn’t agree more seafuryfan, ive had one of those grounding moments where i have a list of KIA names from our local war memorial ,and ive only done half a dozen or so, but ive now got places, aircraft, ect.Ones sticking out in particular ,the site gives his name as POW,the memorial has him as killed a year later.A bit more investigation needed from me i think…

Fluffy…a very big thank you to your friend from me…that site has provided the missing piece of the jigsaw for a collection I am currently cataloguing at work…I was after the early history of Lancaster EE193…I knew it was lost off the coast of Denmark in August ’44 with 550 Squadron, but I have reels and reels of footage of it following an apparent undercarriage failure on return to base from a mission prior to that, with no indication of date (other than the summer of 1943 according to my calculations). Your friend’s information has confirmed my theory and filled in the gaps, thank you! 🙂

Edit: I will contact your friend properly with further details when I get back to work on Monday.
