Chesterfield

I have now moved and I am no longer in the South East. What aviation delights are available to me now?

I don’t have to do much sniffing at the moment. My local, about a third of a mile away, was CAMRA pub of the year 2004. 😀
Unfortunately, they’re plotting to retire this year which could change things.

I’m about 10 minutes East of Chesterfield which helps except for Manchester. From memory, Aeroventure’s about 40 minutes, Newark 45 minutes, Elvington an hour and a quarter and both East Kirkby and Coningsby an hour and a half plus.

North Notts isn’t Chesterfield. I’ve been here for 18 years and it’s a long way from everywhere! Straight up or down the M1 is fine but anything else means cross-country. Duxford on a very good day is an hour and fifty minutes, Old Warden about the same. East Coast main line is Newark, Retford or Doncaster, all getting on for an hour away. West is worse, the Pennines are in the way.

Thanks for the replies,

It used to take me an hour and thirty minutes to commute 25 miles in London so I am beginning to get used to being able to travel greater distances.

Doncaster Aeroventure,Elvington,East Kirkby, Coningsby and Manchester Air & Space are all places I have yet to visit so there is a fair amount to get started on.

I am hoping to finish the initial work on the new house by the summer so knowing good watering holes in the area will be useful.

Dave, one plus point of you being in Chesterfield now, is that you are close to dhfan, who has the uncanny ability, nay, skill! to sniff out the finest pints of beer within a fifty mile radius. 😉

Newark,Cosford,Doncaster Aeroventure,Elvington,East Kirkby, Coningsby, Manchester Air & Space, East Midland Aeropark to start with. None much more than an hour away. I’m in North Notts and an hour & ten sees me parking up at Duxford or Old Warden.
Beauty with living round here is that you’re not far from everywhere. East Coast Main Line is just over an hour to London
