China Eastern Airways

Had a look at their website today, doesn’t tell me a great deal.

Interested to know a little about this airline. Does anyone have any information about the airline or any experience of it.

Particularly interested in A346 thoughts…

I see them in Shanghai regularly. Wasn’t it this bunch who blew all the main gear tyres recently when one of the crew reached back to switch on the taxi camera and accidently got the park brake instead!

Not totally relevant but I went to see them in 1996 in Shanghai to give a presentation to senior staff. After the presentation I was invited to take lunch in the director’s dining room. All very nice until I was offered some small half crabs which I politely refused as I’m allergic to shell fish. Bang. Down came the shutters and the lunch finished very quickly. Loss of face by me refusing the food. 🙁

I flew with China Eastern on an internal route a few months back, the crew were very attentitive and soke decent english, the food and leg room were not as good, as was the condition of the a/c.

Shanghai Pudong is a very good airport to, very quick and clean.

Hmm, some interesting comments there.

I may be going to Shanghai soon and would normally route KLM via Amsterdam. Decided to check other skyteam options and noted that China Eastern operate an Air France flight from Paris. Given the timings are more convenient, and I’ve never been on an A340, I thought I may opt for this (price permitting).

Not overly encouraging feedback though…

I did a couple of internal flights on MU in 2005 – found them to be fine. Hot meal was basic but it was more than you would get on most european carriers. Crew were attentive and friendly (pleanty of them as well – 6 on 737 or A320 size) . Not a word from flight deck but that is the norm in China. Legroom was not great though

I’ve read a lot of bad reviews about China Eastern and I know that their economy product is about as basic as it could be.

But in terms of prices, they are very reasonable. If they would have had an online booking engine, I would have loved to have snapped up a Seoul-London return flight for 400-and-something pounds return.

One of the big three Chinese airlines (along with Air China and China Southern), based in Shanghai. I flew on one of their A300s 10 years ago. Packed to the rafters it was.
