BEIJING (AP) — China plans to set up its own company to make passenger jumbo jets, making it less dependent on Boeing Co. and Europe’s Airbus, official Xinhua News Agency said Thursday.
China’s two main aircraft manufacturing and servicing companies were discussing cooperation plans for the project, Xinhua said.

Does anyone have info about specs on the Chinese regional jet? I wonder how that fairs according to the world standards.

I seem to recall many many years ago, that China built a plane by Reverse engineering (If thats the right term) a Boeing 707…
I stand to be corrected
No need to be corrected, you are quite right they did although size wise it had more in common with the Boeing 720B. China also has a lot of experience building large airframes in the shape of the Tupolev Tu16 Badger bomber and also more recently a large 4 turboprop maritime defence amphibious type similar in looks to the Japanese Shin Miewa.

I trust the Chinese authorities have factored in enough space for when they have to recall the product…:diablo:

Well nothing wrong with the things produced in China, but I doubt about their ability to create something competely new. Aviation requires years of tradition, which they don´t have. I think it´s a big bite
Building a A320 over there is not that hard, if they are trainned properly and under certain standards and controls.
We all have chinese things at home which are just great. My Accer computer is built in China, but it hasn´t been designed there.
As we all know most of the things we use are manufactured in China. The manufacturing industry is the main reason of Chinas economic boom.
India is usually flooded with sub-par Chinese products including electrical supplies and motorbikes, it all totally depends on who is behind the manufacturing.

You mean like the multiple inherent problems of the Boeing 737? Or the Concorde’s problems that ended its service? Or the F-15s that split in half in flight? When it comes to cars… even with high Western standards… American cars are still crap being beat by Japan. Volkswagens are climbing down the ladder too. I also remember the bad reputation of Jaguars. That was one case where you don’t get what you pay for. :diablo:

Hmmm, well EMBRAER don’t seem to have any complaints about the quality of the Chinese built variants of their regional jets and I gather that Airbus are happy with the Chinese originating products that they are using, so it may be generalising a little too much to say that every product they make is appalling.
Leaving that aside this will be an interesting development for the industry and all the more ironic in that the great rush to sell the Chinese everything with wings on over the last couple of decades has surely spurred this outcome on. Who knows, maybe Boeing and Airbus will be competing to be major sub contractors for the Chinese a few years from now!:D
I gather the 145’s from China are to cover Chinese sales only aren’t they? And Embraer are dictating the materials source. As are Airbus.
Left to own devices, the material quality will degrade. I have worked with the alloy specs. from UK, France, USA, Russia and each one, produced to the same specification, will machine/bend/fabricate differently. Only slightly, but a crack starts only slightly.

This is the main problem. Every product they make is of the most appalling quality. Sure, it’s cheap and it looks good…you can put a micrometer on it and it will be bang on, but the raw materials used are lacking in every respect. Why, you can get a screwdriver made in China that will last for at least two dozen screws.

Unless it´s a Boeing 747, produced in China, slightly modified under Boeing advise and with chinese name..:)

I hope their quality standards be better than the cars they produce. :diablo:
