China currently uses an air regiment/division organisational system.
In terms of number of aircraft these are now similar to USAF squadrons (24-28 for PLA, 24-25 for USAF).
1. However how are they organised?
In the past Soviet regiments (I assume PLA used Soviet style organisational structure) had 3 squadrons each of 12-15 aircraft.
Obviously with 24-28 aircraft, such large squadron size is not possible.
2. Does the regiment control all of its own maintenance crew etc?
3. Does the air regiment control the base like a USAF wing or is that the Division’s responsibility?
4. What role does the division have? Is it similar to a Western Wing or is it more like old USAF Divisions?
