WP 833 was one of two Chipmunks flown around the Northern hemisphere (as “Operation Northern Venture”) by Sqn Ldrs Ced Hughes, Bil Purchase and Tony Cowan to mark the 50th anniversary of the Chipmunk in 1996. The other was WP962 with WZ872 as reserve. The story was captured in a book “Chipmunks around the world” by Tony Cowan.

A quick check of my logbook see the following entries:

WP872 several times..obviously the aircraft of choice at the time! 😀
WK630
WP840

It’s a shame WP872 has “emigrated”. I would have loved to have once again seen (or got my hands on :p ) the very first light aircraft I ever flew in as an Air Cadet!!

896 may now be at Brieghton as my notes are a little out of date and I’m currently updating them while looking in here. I’ll let you know if I come across anything or perhaps someone can confirm.

the ones i flew in are WP920, WP896, WK638, the other that i flew in at RAF Kinloss unfortunatly i do not have the serial for, my original 3822 got soaked whilst on a survival course and that is the only one i couldn’t read or trace,

I’ve signed up for the forum – and I’m liking the look of the Air Experience flights, since mine was only half an hour long – first and last time I ever flew in one! 🙁

Landyman, you’ve got me thinking there, I’ve got these in my old ‘3822’ (Air Cadet Record of Service):

WP840, WK630, WD373, WP833, and WP872.

Does anyone know if these are still alive?

Thanks

Bloody oath! I also flew in ‘872 at Turnhouse! Small world! 😀

I think she went to Canada some years ago. Not sure what’s happened to her since.

(Just noticed DGH’s reply – thanks for the info)

Blimey, DGH, thanks for the super-quick reply. Great to see they’re all still around.

Its funny how the drink can give you that extra-bit of enthusiasm. Me, I just talk gibberish!

Cheers
