I have heap’s of old type aircraft in my book’s, or what ever the inventor’s thought they were 😮 .
Point is many many of these weird Air-craft, though classed as aircraft, and put in the book’s as flying machine/Aircraft,
NEVER EVER LEFT THE GROUND EVER!!!!! :p

Yes, I agree with J Boyle, according to research for an article I wrote many years ago on the Cars of The Stars vehicles (for a Bond fan mag), I included details of Pierre’s Chitty, it was fitted with a V6 Zodiac engine, with an automatic gearbox – as well as an extra fan for cooling.
As already mentioned, the Cars of The Stars Motor Museum http://www.carsofthestars.com/ is a great place to visit, as is Peter’s new Bond Museum http://www.thebondmuseum.com/ which includes vehicles used in the 007 films up to Quantum of Solace.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has not only visited an airfield, I remember sitting in the car (don’t know which version) at Paddington Station, London, some time before or after the film’s initial release. I can’t remember how long she was on display there but she did turn a few heads.

Will it be at L……..:D
No Rumour has it there are paperwork issues with the CAA (who regard it as a new type) and it may never be allowed to fly in the UK again.

*Granadas* weren’t quite that unreliable 😉
The Grenadas were Granadas for export to various middle-east countries.
Shirley you remember the Hezbollah Estate, the Hamas GTE, and the ever popular Fatah Ghia? 😀

According to my 1972 edition of The Observer’s Book of Automobiles the then current Ford Zodiac introduced in 1966 featured a 2994cc V-6 engine.
My apologies for calling the Zodiac a Grenada. When I was in the UK, the range topping Ford was the Grenada. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. 🙂
Also, some Capris (introduced in 1969) had 3 litre engines, though I don’t know when the 3000 model was introduced.

Consul/Granada line introduce in ’72, so possibly Zephyr/Zodiac motor?
By: ZRX61 - 23rd May 2010 at 00:06
I understand it has a Ford 3000cc V-6…out of a period Grenada, I suspect. To see one I recommend Peter Nelson’s great Cars of the Stars Museum in Keswick. Peter’s a great guy…and he has a great Bond collection as well.

I doubt it was from a Granada, I saw in ’70 or earlier, same year the movie came out. (Just checked online, so ’68 or early ’69) ..when did the UK get Granadas?

Chitty’s designer was questioned by the FBI as well for his mock up of the inside of a B52 for Dr Strangelove. It was rather too accurate and they thought perhaps he’d been spying.

There is also a replica living at Saffron Walden (so not that far from DX) built for the local dramatic society’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Given that the builder has one of those La France fire engine chassis modified into a gargantuan pre-WW1 sports car-alike, it may well have some interesting bits under the bonnet. It certainly looks the part, though I never checked for wings… It’s builder was a founder member of the charmingly acronymed Shire Hill International Transport Society… :diablo:
Is Derek Piggott still with us? I was taught History at school by his son, and my parents house is still graced by a cactus said son gave me, named George Truscott after the gardener at Lasham – or so I was told…

The original 1920s cars were Brooklands racers and were actually called “Chitty Bang Bang”. The cars were owned and raced by Count Louis Zborowski who was eventually killed at Monza driving a Mercedes.

is that THE original from the movie, or a replica.
Well STORMBIRD262, according to the driver and owner, can be seen wearing a long coat and multi coloured scarf hat and goggles in second to last photo, he told us that it is THE original from the movie and he actually drove it in the film on some of the longer shots. It is also gas powered and made a lovely deep rumbling sound when he put the pedal to the metal.

GEN 11, never looked so lovely 😎 , is that THE original from the movie, or a replica.
The Cars of the Stars (Keswick, UK – ref earlier) website says:
http://members.aol.com/cotsmm/cotspg3.html
In fact six cars were used in this film. Two being the racing car, one in a dilapidated state and the other the racing car that crashes. At the end of the film neither of these versions survived. Four other Chittys were produced for various parts of the rest of the film. The hovercraft car, that transforms from car to hovercraft, and three other cars.
