Christmas came early yesterday…

Well at least it did for SkyCruiser. At 0200 yesterday morning SkyCruiser phoned Cathay fro the results of his selection process to hear that he was successful. He has been offered the choice of flying the B747 or the A340. What do you think he should pick (when he climbs back down off the ceiling)?

Yeah well done SkyCruiser. I would have taken the 744 as well. I would love to do the long haul flights as you would get to see most of the world.

RE: Christmas came early yesterday…

I knew he had chosen the Boeing when I made the original post but was interested to see what you would all choose. I know SkyCruiser has always had this thing since he was knee high to a grasshopper to fly 747’s for a large carrier so it was always going to be the 747 if he had the choice. Me, I’d have gone for the Airbus for the sole reason that if I wanted to leave Hong Kong and return to the UK I’d be able to slip into any company that operates any type of Airbus with minimal transition and hassle. With the 747-400 type there is much less choice but hey who cares he’s in Cathay and intends to stay there until he retires or Charlton win the premiership, whichever comes first (I can dream, can’t I?).

PS – I’m very happy where I am at the moment. When you get to this level in aviation your lifestyle becomes more important than what you fly. I turned down the 747 with Virgin a couple of years ago because the 757 lifestyle suits me much better (more time at home with the kids & I have already done 9 years of long haul before). Fortunately we are all different.

RE: Christmas came early yesterday…

Congratulations and well done.

Did you chose the 747 for flying reasons or because, as a more numerous aircraft at present, they fly more places so you have more variety?

RE: Christmas came early yesterday…

Thanks chaps,

Well, after a long hard think I have gone for the 747-400.
I am currently sorting out my start date which looks like it will be in a month or so, and starting to pack up our stuff for the trip back to England before the long trip to Hong Kong.

I would also like to thank WYSIWYG again for all his help and I just hope he gets to fly a big airplane one day. HeHeHeHe!!!!!!!

Cheers WYSIY….

All the best guys

RE: Christmas came early yesterday…

Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS to skycruiser, I wish him a long successful and happy career. As for flying the 747 or the A340 I shouldn’t think he cares which at the moment. As for getting him down off the ceiling, that may prove difficult.

Secondly, congratulations to Wysiwyg on his 600th post. It’s good to have you around.

RE: Christmas came early yesterday…

congrats to him…

given the choice, the 340 is probably more interesting at the moment, as the familiy grows, although if he’s not so keen on Fly by wire/sidesticks, the 747 would obviously be ideal…
