Christmas is only around the corner, you can bet your life there’ll be wrapping paper, xmas cards and other sundries available in the shops in the next few weeks , that’s if they’re not already. Do any of you go away for xmas. Tell me how you celebrate(if that’s the right word)

RE: Christmas is coming
I haven’t seen snow in 5 years (at least nothing major) The sea is just too warm for any cold snow to pass over, anything we do get is in the form of rain.Whenm I went skking last year it was nice to remember what snow looked and felt like!
Last few Christmas’ over here in Guernsey,it has ever rained of been overcast.Last year it was rather sunny, but I don’t like that as I think it takes away a certain feeling you get at christmas.

RE: Christmas is coming
due to the gluf stream all we get is rain ! ok we get some frost.
snow – now that is a raiety – maybe a handfull (3 or 4) days of snow a year and even that is not serious stuff. the gritters go out, we ave a day of toboganing down any hill on anything we can find and thats it – it melts very quickly.
as a nation we are totally unprepared for snow or the cold – all we are preapred for is the rain. someone didi a study and more ppeople die proportianl of hypothermia in the uk than finland – this is due to our houses not being built for the cold, etc while finland is very ready for it

Frank
I can sympathise with those of you who have to put up with the snow and cold as a normal part of your lives.
Out here, our snow only appears in our mountain areas of a couple of states, and is valued for its sport and recreation uses. The interesting thing about our snowfields is that they actually cover a larger area than Switzerland.
I just haven’t been there when it’s snowing…..

RE: Christmas is coming
Well Wombat, what it snow?
Here’s the answer:
When you see it at TV, it looks nice.
When you look out of the window, it looks even nicer, with small birds that come eating on your front door the food you put there.
But then, you *have* to go shopping. It’s 6.30 AM, and you get out of your nice, comfortable, hot bed because you know 1 meter snow fell last night. Ouch. First, you put a heavy vest (preferably with PolarTec (c) and other things to avoid getting cold and wet, then go out and during some hours, you try to get rid of this damn snow that is da*n heavy. Of course, under the snow, there’s ice, you slip, and fall in the snow. Now it’s really cold. After you have sweaten for 2 hours, you go inside, you take a shower, then tke your car, and risk an accident every 100 meters because that ice is, of course, also on the streets. And of course you can’t go shopping because you are already late for work, and have to justify it to your boss who lives in an area where no snow fell, and tells you you are a liar because he easily came at the office 😉
That’s snow…. 😀

RE: Christmas is coming
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-10-02 AT 08:29 AM (GMT)]I probably shouldn’t admit to this, but being an Aussie, living near on the coast, Christmas means laying on a beach with a gently ocean breeze keeping temperatures around 25 degrees celsius (about 75 F), then returning home to sit on the porch and look out over the district, sinking a few cold beers and chewing the fat with the other half or family. If it’s too hot, go inside where the air-conditioning is keeping temperatures down to around 22 Celsius.
Unlike many of you, I have never seen snow in my life (and feel that much poorer for the lack of experience!)

RE: Christmas is coming
I always find it a very sad and depressing time of year nowadays. The commercialism is nothing new, but the magic of Christmas has long departed and it brings home the sadness of absent friends, lost relatives and the girl of my dreams being away (it’s usually the case at Christmas)….
🙁

RE: Christmas is coming
Don’t talk about X-Mas yet, even if it is nice with all lights, … it’s also darn cold!!!!! I’m freezing just by thinking about it.
My program will be easy: at home, near the radiator 😉

RE: Christmas is coming
Some of the shops in Sutton Dave already have started.
Anyhow in answer to your question, we usually stay home at christmas, and my Brother, and my sister, with her kids come here, for dinner.
