christmas telly

Ive just had a quick look at the TV guide for the holiday period, utter rubbish, over three hours of soaps on Christmas day?
Is this the same in other forumites countries or is just the UK ripping off its viewing public.
Also if you see something interesting in the forthcomming TV guide let us know.

Do you remeber when TV used to finish about mid-night? They had to put good stuff on as they had to fight for the audience over a shorter time. Now TV is 24 hours and they can fill it with crud interspersed with the odd good bit as teh audience is also 24 hours.
Perhaps society is dumbing down too. Just look at the obsession with “celebrity” and a good 90+% aren’t even close. We have wall to wall reality shows and clones of any slightly good idea.
I’ve not seen the schedule for Christmas ’05 and the trailers I’ve seen don’t make me feel like watching anyway. I’ll be playing with the kids instead I think thank you.

I just think its disrespectful having it at the same time as the Queen’s Speech. A bit like someone holding a party on the same days as someone they didn’t like funeral

Sorry i must disagree, not all of the UKs residents are royalists and people lost thier lives in the fight for democracy and free speech,so in my eyes it shows great respect that we have a alternative to choose from.

Xmas TV used to be brilliant, but like Saturday nights, it has really toned down.

And why do Channel 4 have to put their alternative Christmas Message on at the same time as the Queen (15:00). I think it is very disrespectful. Whats wrong with 14:50 or 15:10?

Christmas TV is rubbish. On Christmas Day, the only programmes worth watching are The Queen’s Speech and Eastenders.

Well not all people want to watch the Queen’s speech do they I know I don’t  so they’ll choose to watch the other one which makes sense being on at the same time or they won’t watch either like me 😀

I shall be at work Christmas day (07-1900) with The BoB on DVD plus others so should be a reasonable day subject to movements!! 🙂

Wonder what management will provide this year for nourishment??

Why should there be? The advertisers know that most of you (other than the odd loony who is currently camped outside Harrods or somewhere) aren’t going to rush out and buy for a few days, and if the BBC try to trounce ITV they will get lambasted for being competative, again. Christmas TV in Britain has been lame for years; there will be a few Xmas ‘specials’ from everyone and their dog, a few vehicles for soap stars who insist that they shouldn’t be pigeon-holed and that they can do Dickens justice, and the same old films. Mustn’t forget the Queens speechzzz…
