Christmas trip to South America. Part 1

After planning and saving up for over a year the day had finally arrived when i would be leaving for South America on a visit to Brasil and my home-country Argentina to visit cousins, aunts and grandparents and obviously hit the beach!
I had booked my flights over 8 months ago and with my family and i recenly re-locating to Amsterdam i managed to amend my flights.

FLIGHT 1 (DEC 2006)
Amsterdam (AMS)- Sao Paolo (GRU)
KL791
TOD- 10.00
TOA-17.00
B777-206
LOAD- 85%
I was due to fly to GRU with Air France via CDG from SOU however with the move to The Netherlands i had to change this and luckily with only a small charge i changed to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Check-in was quick, and easy, and with the Dutch schools and offices still busy, Schiphol Airport was no busier than usual. My mum, sisters and i then went to the panorama terrace for breakfast and last moments before i left. I then said goodbye to my family and went through passport control, and after an uneventful stroll around the duty free section, i made my way to gate and waited as i watched our a/c being loading and crew boarding and watch a NWA A330-300 push back for Minneapolis.

After a slight delay boarding began at 09.25 and i made my way on-board greeted by the tall dutch stewardeses. The cabin was good, clean and modern. I sat at my window seat (forgot which seat!) and as we taxied i watched the personal TV screens for the safety announcement. Take off was at approx 10.40 (delayed) and soon we were on our way!
The flight was long and quite boring. I saw movies and listened to movies whilst i ate lunch which was not bad (pasta with chicken). I then, being bored and alone took a walk about and actually didnt realise how big the B777 actually was!
Finally after almost 12 hours we began our descent into GRU and touched down at 16.55 (early!) This was when the nerves kicked in…
GRU is such a differant type of airport from Schiphol. Obviously it was smaller and less quiet even though it seemed more chaotic. I hadnt finished my trip yet however, my next flight was leaving to Buenos Aires in a couple of hours…I dont speak portuguese but i do Spanish so i luckily got help to the transfer desk to retrieve my boarding card for EZE as at AMS the machine wouldnt give it to me :s This flight in part 2. THANKS!

Great report and what a surprise that it was a KLM flight, too! Later on, I’ll be writing at least one of my recent KLM trip reports, starting with Seoul to Amsterdam. Unlike yours, it was on a rather old 747, where PTVs were non-existent!
