I suspect it’s nothing to do with the size of the crowd, but the initial comment about setting aside the “grumbly stuff” hit the nail on the head. Some people will feel uncomfortable or hypocritical about posting on a thread such as this, so take the option of not posting at all.
Me? I recognise his impressive achievements.

It’s not so much a tough crowd as no crowd. Even the former enthusiasts who pass by say that it is just that- the occasional pass by. You can’t expect comments from folk who aren’t here.

Poor old Chuck , he did some sort of flying stuff, but I guess his own Historic Aviation activities were not really significant enough to attract much comment on this forum.
Tough crowd.

While acknowledging that he did a lot of amazing stuff, I would be among the grumblies, having met him and listened to his talks a few times, so I am keeping fairly quiet. That said, no-one else seems to want to post anything. So long and thanks for all the fish.

An incredible aviator, a history-maker and hugely courageous . His sometimes-robust opinions were quite challenging, but no question, he was a legend. On this particular thread, hopefully we can set aside the grumbly stuff, and leave that for another day.
What a survivor ! To an extent, you make your own luck, but to live the life he did, and die in bed at 97, that’s a pretty good run.
