Cine film clips

Looking through cine film that my father took in the 1960s/70s I found some aircraft clips. The quality is sadly poor (we should have had them copied onto video tape a long time ago) but I have put them on my website hoping they may be of interest.

The clips are of:-

Concorde 002 at RAF Fairford in 1970 – we only stopped by chance and the cine film ran out just as it took off.

Boeing 707 G-APFI in BOAC markings taking off from Manchester airport in the mid 1960s

A Westland Whirlwind helicopter in the early 60s over the sea near Bridlington.

You can find them here – they are in wmv format

I like the image of the woman standing and waving/posing for the gallery. Wonder if it was someone famous, as there did seem an awful lot of people watching the take off?

We have never found out who she was but have always wondered.

My Uncle was on the flight going back to Canada – that is why we were there and my father filmed it – I was only a few years old and found it all very exciting.

It was great to see the yellow Whirlwind – My father worked on them as an electrician in an RAF search and Rescue unit (22 squadron) before the seaking came into service. they used to be allowed a flight in them every Thursday! As a side note, the current SAR base @ RAF Chivenor (22sqdrn ‘A’ flight) is due to be privatised by the end of this year – The seakings may not be brilliant yellow for much longer…

Great film of the 707. Still a time when flying was an adventure! I like the image of the woman standing and waving/posing for the gallery. Wonder if it was someone famous, as there did seem an awful lot of people watching the take off? Thanks for those. 🙂

Thanks for doing that, the 707 clip brings back fond memories of my young days abroad as we flew BOAC a lot, VC10s and 707s. Very nostalgic.
