If it does happen then what an amazing historic jet flight they will have, with already a Tunnan, Hunter, Vampire and Lansen being operated.

Now that is what you call a Historic Flight! Fantastic vid, thanks for posting.
Looks like the RAT was deployed in the shutting down sequence?

Yes, stunning news. Very nice to see a Viggen again. Impressive.

Was this airplane in any sense restored, or was it simply taken out of storage and prepared for flight? (Not that that’s as simple as it might sound, I fully understand…)
When she left the Air Force (Flygvapnet) the F15 wing at Söderhamn she was flown to F7 Såtenäs for preservation to become a future flyer.
She was delieverd new from Saab in 1977 to the F7 wing (if i remeber correct).

This really is turning into a great year for historic European jets 😎

Seriously impressed. What an achievement with the Viggen, and indeed the whole collection of classic flying SwAFHF aircraft.
Thanks for posting.

It will be operated in a different country for a start.
Don’t forget the aircrafts’ past record in the services is taken into account, not sure what the Viggens’ safety history (not the term I’m really looking for)was like but the Lightnings’ isn’t seen as great. It is a previous generation to the Tornado.
Also manufacturer/DA support, and the aircrafts systems, such as manual revision, or backup hydraulic control systems built in (as the Sea Vixen does) are all important factors.
I admire the Swedish historical flight/movement, unsure how it is operated but it really does fly types representative right across its history, both foreign and SAAB built.

Surely the Viggen is every bit as complex as the Tornado of similar vintage…what sort of financial and deeply technical infrastructure would be required to keep such a beast airworthy, and certified , surely only SAF support and financing would be able to keep it viable ??
If a Lightning of a way previous era is much too complex to keep airborne, what hope for a private Viggen (or Tornado)…??

Absolutely Margus 😉
Remember seeing a Viggen at a Mildenhall Air Fete. Very impresssive beast.
Just wish UK airshow organisers would follow the initiative taken by those in Jersey and book this historic jet flight, or at least some of it, for appearances over here.

‘Love to see Viggen in an airshow again. I never forget emerging from the indoor exhibition at Farnbrough in 1982. Through a small gap in a croud of people I saw a Viggen afterburner light. The ground shook. The sound arrived an instant later, but the air could barely support it. It was a wierd, loud crackle ! I remember noting that the planform of the aircraft in the air was slightly sinister.
Years later I had a go in a Viggen simulator. I am not a pilot. It was so easy to fly, and landing, with the AFK system, was unbelievably easy.
The Tornado also gave a great display at Farnbrough ’82.
