Afternoon all,
Just wondering about the status/future of this brute? I think I read a rumour somewhere that it was available to a museum?
Cheers,
J man

The Belfast seems to have had no activity for months. Not sure about the CL-44.

Newforest, according to local spotters at Bournemouth-Hurn nothing seems to be happening at all at the moment around “Guppy”. And yes, they pass her by each day hoping to see something like an engine test…

It doesn’t get much later than today for the end of May and no news is……….no news.:( Aren’t there any Forum members in the Bournemouth area to provide information?
By: Newforest - 14th May 2007 at 09:04
The underground news now suggests that the Guppy may be leaving at the end of May and heading……….west, to the U.S. to be painted.:)

Hope it is good news landed at Bournemouth in the dark last night so could not see her and we departed under cover this morning.
Look forward to the good news of air between the aircraft and what she has been sitting on for a long time

I hope there is good news about the departure soon.
Here’s the office.

Hopefully this one is saved to fly again!!!
As to Canadians not being interest, not true…we would love to have a CL-44 in Canada and I have been told alot of effort has gone into trying to recover the one in Ecuador.
The problem is dollars.
We are living in a time of limited corporate support and reduced federal government support.
Once you get it you have to support it….more $$$
The financial cycle needs to break over here (and other places).
I will be attending a museums conference in San Diego at the start of April…I’m dying to see how our American neighbors are so successful corporately.

There is a great colour photo in the latest issue of Propliner showing the Guppy as RP-C-8023. The plane has been moved from BASCO to outside European Aviation. There has been no test flight yet, but the destination would seem to be Jahore, Malaysia for HeavyLift who are changing their name to Transglobal.

Not quite, there is one in Brazzaville. It was damaged on landing a few years ago (a prop struck the ground I think) but remains complete, at least it was four months ago.
S.B.
If you cut and paste 4 14 58.01 s 15 14 57.92 e into the flyto box on Google Earth it should put you overhead 7Q-YMS at Brazzaville. Then zoom into eye level at approx 1,500ft. http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0073917/L/
I think I’ve found a CL-44 survivor at Tripoli International

Google earth 32 39 35.37 N 13 09 44.74 E a quick cut and paste in the flyto box and decend to 250′ agl.
Does anyone know if she is still there. I believe they are both ex Transvalair.
Be lucky

P.S. Does anyone know how to date google earth images

Looks as though it may be leaving Monday 15th January!:) 😉 🙁
(Date is from a rumour forum)

UPDATE
As this link is not now functioning, it gave details of the crew that would be flying the plane. On the negative side, there are still rumours that the plane is not certified to fly and in fact has not yet flown a test flight.

Do we know yet if as suspected it is going on to AUS to serve with Heavylift? Actually, that begs the question has it been repainted to reflect the Belfast colours?
Any piccys yet???

It was seen outside on Tuesday wearing its new markings of RP-C-8023 (sic) and doing high speed engine runs.
Since then it has been inside.
BASCOs closes on 22/12/06 for good so a departure next week seems likely. I presume an air test or two might be in the offing for early next week but I could be wrong …

I believe the “Guppy” was having engine runs at Bournemouth earlier this week and wearing a Philippino registration. Heading eastwards?

Ah, sounds like someone anagrammed Aus to get USA!
Long may the Belslow be slow! Used to love watching them lumber in to Stansted!

(HOW many elephants? Blimey, thank goodness I don’t have to clean up after those!)
By: Jamie-Southend - 13th December 2006 at 18:01
Adrain, I think you will find they are Aussies.
🙂

Air pictorial states that Heavylift USA have bought this and the last remaining Belslow and they are being readied for departure
Pardon me for being slow, but…
Are Heavylift USA anything to do with the old Heavylift, who used to fly the Belslows into Stansted?
If so, I wonder what the change in circumstances was that made them buy it back?
And what on earth are the yanks going to make of the Belslow, I wonder?

The aircraft has been rolling along the runway and is now registered RP-C-8023.
