As you may know, Classic Air force Coventry will “reopen” to the public at our headquarters in Coventry this spring.
The date is 2nd May and a vintage air display is planned.
This will hopefully feature some of the jets as well as some of the piston aircraft also, some of which haven’t been seen in the air for a few years…
However one of the vital things that allows Airbase to operate is volunteers!
They are looking for guys – and ladies of all ages and skill levels (under 16’s must be accompanied). Whether you would like to meet and greet, and talk to visitors about the unique and beautiful aircraft – or get involved in other ways, there are roles for everyone.
Volunteering is a great way of learning new skills, and meeting new people. But to be able to “work” amongst some of the world’s most unique and rare aircraft is a dream come true for many people. So if you are interested contact our colleagues at Coventry on 02476 882600.
Details of the day can be found here.

Classic Flight are planning to display 6 of it’s aircraft in the air – Anson, Proctor, JP5, Meteor NF.11, Vampire and Dove. The Dove is also one of 4 aircraft doing pleasure flights – the others Rapide (G-AIDL), Prentice and Chipmunk.
The Shackleton will be engine running and there will also be an Alvis Leonides and a Bristol Hercules running. A Venom cockpit arrived today to participate.
Car Parking is via the Rugby field off Rowley Road that is on the north side of the airport – the west entrance (Baginton village) is meant for pre-paid visitors, disabled visitors and airport tenants and their visitors.
Be aware of massive roadworks going on at the north east corner of the airport (end of Rowley Road) that might cause delays.
See you there? Roger Smith.
PS careful if using satnav – putting in the postcode CV8 3AZ I believe might take you to the village of Stoneleigh. Lovely though it might be it’s a couple of miles down country lanes away from Coventry Airport!

Has anyone got any news on the shackleton at St.Mawgan

Sounds like a great event. Is it possible to get the Shackleton to do a ground run? Maybe the Nimrod too?

I believe that both the Shackleton and Nimrod will be engine running during the day, as well as some other ground running engines.

Maybe if the DC-3 returns to the fleet for pleasure flights, it will be possible to arrange flights down to St.Mawgan and back at some stage? That would be a cracking plan! 🙂

The last two DC3’s owned by Air Atlantique are still airworthy and are on lease to RVL for pollution control.
Unfortunately,the DC6 isn’t airworthy at the moment.

I seem to remember a flypast of seven DC-3s when I was last there.

Any company DC-3 or DC-6’s still flying or visiting?

This looks good and is something I’ll definitely be trying to get to.
Out of interest what’s the wider plan for the organisation? Do they plan to keep both sites operating?

Good oh, should be a great day !
I believe that the current plan is to keep both sites open for the foreseeable.

Update on the day.
”It’s a proper, real-deal air show, registered as such with the CAA. They’ll be proper displays, not just flybys. The NF11 and Vampire will do part of their display together as the Heritage Pair.
The displays at the moment are:
JP5
Pembroke
Proctor
Anson
Vampire
Meteor
There’ll be pleasure flying from the Dove, Rapide, Prentice and Chippie, so that’s 10 aircraft in the air. Not too shabby I’d say! ”
It’s unlikely that there will be any displays by third party aircraft, due to the costs involved, but hopefully there will be some interesting visitors during the day.
See you there ?
