Classic Flight Update (inc News on the Shack)

This has just posted this on another forum… (by Dave Depledge)

The Shackleton position has changed…The plans to move it to Newquay are now “dead in the water” and its future home is uncertain. If this is somewhere other than Coventry, it will be dismantled when this is confirmed. In the meanwhile it will continue to have regular engine runs.

Rapide G-AIDL is on major overhaul and will emerge in a RNZAF Transport Command scheme.

Dakota G-ANAF, the one with the radar bulge, has just secured a new contract with a different company (previously Thales). It will emerge from re-paint bright red apparently.

The single seat Hunter is sold and to depart soon to the Lake District. The
two seater Hunter is being restored to flying condition but will not be
flying for at least a year.

Sorry to dissappoint you Blue Robin but the paint scheme bere’s no relation to the contract, she just needed one. Although that kinda spoils the fun, could have teased that one out for a bit……:D

So it was Mike’s choice then. I bet he nicked it by looking at the BAS Dash-7, which sometimes parks next to the CF fleet. 😉

Put me hand in me pocket.

The Shackleton is run up to full power at nearly every open day that is held at Coventry, by members of the Shackleton trust who look after it, so I look forward to you puuting your hand in your pocket and coming along for a visit ………
If you put your hand in a little deeper you could be on board for the engine runs and hear the intercom at the same time.
All monies goes towards keeping it in a runable condition. 😉

Regards, Alan

Hi Alan,

Okey mate, Coventry it is next year, and I will bring my purse with me.

Cheers JJ.

I’m settling in ‘AF working for the BAS as I mentioned above.

The paint scheme looks familiar…

DGH, I’m bouncing up and down on the spot about the new scheme on ‘AF. When can we now?

By the way, are you still after volunteers? I would imagine a lot of hangAr work starts now out of season?

Doesnt look to have changed much recently.

Bruce

Slowly! If I can get an upto date progress report with some useful info in it I’ll let you know. The aircraft is actually being overhauled by CFS rather than us, so I cant just ask one of our engineers. 🙂

Are Classic Flight doing the poppy drop over Bedworth this year on 11th November. If so what aircraft is/are being used?

The British Legion in “Beduth” proudly claim that the town is the only one in the UK to have held a rememberance parade consistently on Armistice Day (whereas most of those that still do it have moved it to the nearest/following Sunday).

Roger Smith.

Bedworths Armistice day parade falls on the Sunday this year, and Nuneatons normal Rememberance Sunday takes the slot. Have no idea if the Classic flight as any poppy drops planned for events this year . maybe one of the guys from Classic flight can fill us in on things. Beduff will have a normal
Rememberance sunday parade.
