TSR2 any day of the week !. Only thing I’d change would be those aweful smoky engines for some decent Rolls Royce jobbies. Having seen the TSR2 fly….blimey am I that old ?… it just looks soooooo right. even looks fast when its sat on the ground!

Other stuff would have to include the :
Queen of the skies, yup, the good ol’ VC10 in early BOAC colours, so gracefull.

Gnat, cos you want to put in your pocket and take it home with you.

Vulcan, for waking the neighburs up with that unforgetable Olympus scream…..and somewhere dry to park under when it rains.

And to finish with…the Caspian Sea Monster, just in your face from whatever angle and totally impressive, especially on take off run with all eight engines giving it yahoo and a cloud of spray half a mile long following behind.

Yep Lancmans right with the Beryl in Bluebird. It was one of the engines from the SR/A1 flying boat that used to be at Duxford and is now i think at Southampton. The engine is on display at Filching Manor Motor Museum in Polegate. When it was restored about 10 years ago it still had fuel in it.

As you may guess, I have more than a little sympathy with VLMFlyer/Comet and Bill16STN.
Add the Meteor in, it’s old and the very first flight was made with DH engines.

Has to be the Canberra for me, especially the B(I)8. With its fighter-type canopy and clean lines it is surely the smoothest looking jet bomber ever made. 😉

Got to admit, the Hunter F.6 looks good in the air as well though

Just so as I can be cowardly and indecisive,I’m splitting my favourites into certain groups, and even then I can’t pick just one-agh!
My favourite jet powered heavy would have to be any of the V-Bombers,but particularly the HP Victor. For fighters, well lots of stuff turns me on,but the Swift and Javelin are particular favourites.
Others include the B47 Stratojet,A6 Intruder,Canberra,Su-15…ok,ok so I’m an indecisive sod! 😀

Only just caught back up with this thread, otherwise I’d have answered dhfan’s Bluebird/Gnat query myself, but Alexis has it spot on, anyway!

Bluebird did indeed once have a Beryl engine too though, so actually, we’re ALL right! 😀

Anything from Hatfield, with the exception of the Hunter.
That “blue note” just makes me grin:D

Mine would have to be the Vulcan, closely followed by the Hunter.

If we’re allowed research aircraft there is somthing very attractive about the Fairy Delta 2. It also had thye air speed record at one point not bad at all.

This is an iteresting thread: I discovered that I seem to love T-tails.
If I had to nominate something in the airliner and recce categories, I’d go for the VC10 and the RF-101C.

Donald Campbell bought the prototype Gnat T1 XM691 in 1966 and fitted the tailplane and orpheus engine to his boat Bluebird K7. This engine was subsequently destroyed when the air intakes collapsed while doing static testing. He purchased a second engine and that is what powered K7 until her crash at Coniston on 4th January 1967.
As a little extra on Donald, Nevile Duke was one of his best friends and supplied him with his flying helmet which was used for these attempts.

I’ve always been a big EE Lightning fan, but seeing a Jav up close for the first time in many years at RIAT last week, made me pause for thought…but not for long

If it was to be rolled out tomorrow, the Valkyrie would look futuristic. Way ahead of it’s time, like so many of the 50’s/60’s designs it “should” have made it into production.

Production jets? The EE Lightning, the memory of standing yards away from 111 Squadron doing a burner stream take off at Farnborough: the ground shook 😀 I’ll never forgive my Senior Pilot for refusing to give me permission to go for a flight in one, when we were out East 😡

Most graceful? Got to be the Hunter.

I think for me it has to be the Vulcan. Brings back happy child hood memories of West Malling. With THAT howl!
Other than that in no particular order…

Hunter – the definative fighter jet
Sabre – the jet mustang!
T-33 – nice curves
Vampire/Venom – just love those twin booms!
