Hello there,
I am sure you forumites will get this in double quick time.
What’s the name of the film which at the end has a lady putting up a light in the rafters of a bombed out house at the end of an airfield runway? All I remember I that it is in black and white.
Am at work on a boat in the Atlantic, and this is really tormenting me as I can’t remember.
Cheers in advance!
Scotty

Bridleway Gate in Shropshire was a Relief Landing Ground for Shawbury’s Oxfords. There was, and still is, a cottage perilously near and the family living in it were asked to display a light in an upstairs window to warn pilots of the obstruction during night flying. So, not entirely fictitious!
A genuine ‘landing’ light!

It was indeed Neethley in the film. In the scene in the ops room towards the end, one of the WAAFs remarks something about Septic’s callsign “when he first came into Neethley”.
I have a funny feeling The First of the Few also used that name for the airfield, though I could be wrong.

Wasn’t it RAF Neethley in the film ?
Was it? Could’ve sworn they kept it as Kenley.

A few years ago The Daily Mail was giving away “Angels One Five” FREE on a DVD. You can still buy copies on eBay for around 99p (plus postage)…

It’s Kenley both in fiction and reality but the squadron is fictitious.

I think that is a reference to earlier in the film when the police call round because of infringement of the blackout regulations, the lady of the house says that she always leaves a light on to help the pilots.

Not that I know of.

The lady that places a lamp in her house to guide the pilots home. Is that based on a real event?

Hi all,
Thanks for your responses. I’m now no longer in torment!
Will be purchasing a copy when I get home.
Kind Regards

Nope, you are quite right, and it was a genuine wartime relic recovered from a scrapyard for the scene (or at least that’s what I recall from previous discussions!)

It must be four decades since I have seen this film,I have a vague recollection of one scene which featured a downed Bf110.Is my memory incorrect? or if not does anyone know if it was a genuine aircraft or a mock-up?
Regards Pete.

Is the airfield meant to represent any BoB airfield or is it fictitious?
Croydon Airfield had Hurricanes and Blenheims dispersed near to houses at the end of the runway. One Blenheim ending up in one of the houses.

Enjoyable film. I think the Hurricanes are ex-Portugese Air Force, and
Humphrey Lestocq who appears as Flight Lieutenant ‘Batchy’ Salter, flew Typhoons with 609 Squadron.
