1st pic is of a very rare aircraft – Iranian Air Force Boeing 707 Tanker.
Yes, very rare. Looks like 5-8304, c/n 20833/890 which was still flying in February 2007. Not sure how many are left flying in Iran.

The VC10’s were a beautiful aircraft when they were called Hushpower and the pride of the BOAC fleet..i remember when they flew to Australia sometimes carrying the Queen with BOAC’s chief pilot Captain Norman Bristow at the controls…..anyone know if he’s still alive??

Thanks Neil, Great pics, I was lucky enough to have started my aviation career as a Traffic Officer in 1980 and therefore had to ‘loadsheet’ such beauties as the Caravelle, TRIDENT!, TU134, 154, IL18, 62M, Viscounts, Vangaurds, F27, 28, DC8s etc. Is a 777 as exciting as a DC8-63 at ‘full bore’? in my opinion nowhere near, but I guess its subjective! Neil, more anytime please and thanx:)

Hugh,it’s all in the age of classicness.:D

The Armlong Whitworth is not an attractive aircraft is it. It would have been the first plane I knew as that is what the old man flew when I was born.
I find it amazing to see how such large aircraft got airborne with such tiny engines!

Simply stunning, ah strange seeing Pier C with no satallite, and those were the days of BA long haul aircraft peppering the terminal daily! Sadly I wasn’t alive during those times!:(

Let’s not forget that the Trident and BAC-1-11 were the 319 and 757 of the day. Nostalgia is wonderful thing is it not ?
That’s damned right Ren.:)

Ahhh excellent, on the Super Shuttle 😎
Much more interesting than those bloody 319s and 757s I’m stuck on nowadays 🙁

Classic Types, Classic Liveries…an absolutely Classic Post!
While I wasn’t near Manchester in those days, the photos have brought back memories of similar times at LHR and LGW – “classic” times indeed.
Keep ’em coming, and I’d recommend you post a link onto the “historic” board too, there are plenty of people there (like me) who’d probably enjoy this thread.

Look at some of these REAL aircraft, young whippersnappers…;)
There is nothing whatsoever ‘unreal’ about a 777-300…
…But every aircraft in this thread is jaw droppingly good looking!
Neil, this is one of the most enjoyable photo threads I’ve ever seen on the forum. I absolutely love it!

Some really great stuff there, please keep them coming and coming.
Do you think in years to come we’ll marvel at classics like a BA319 or a VS340? Only time will tell.
My only slight concern when these ‘classic’ threads appear is the number of aircraft they include that I have worked on. The DA727’s are possibles as are the BA 747s. The 3 BCal DC10s in a row are definates. Of course they must have been VERY new in that picture, and VERY old when I flew on them. At least that’s my story.
As I say please keep them coming.
