Cleaners.

Hi all
today a small group of us made another visit to Old Warden for the purpose of aeroplane cleaning.
I’d just like to say that the SVAS is always desperate for volunteers and should any of you care to join us in the future please PM, myself or Robbo.
It’s quite hard work but very rewarding and the p*ss-taking is a) non-stop and b) of a ruthless nature.
So, those with no sense of humour need not apply, otherwise all are welcome.
Also, thanks Robbo, Mike J, Andrew O and Rover 73.
Cheers 🙂 🙂 🙂
Andy
PS Slight apologies about the poor quality of this picture and thanks to Hairyplane for the use of the Magister.

Of course we shouldn’t let Albert loose near an aircraft with cleaning materials, lest he clean the top deck colour off and replace it with something else 😉

…who do you think you are, my Tutor, or someone???? :dev2:

So are unlicenced volunteers at Old Warden allowed to do anything more than clean the aircraft? I had heard not (but I’d like to have it confirmed by one who knows!).

Some of us just like being up close and personal with old aeroplanes though – I’ve used all the free rope that she who must be obeyed has payed out for hobbies, otherwise I’d be volunteering 🙂

So many people come up to the fence and ask me for a flight. Conversely, how many have actually come up to me at the fence just to volunteer to help me get the oil and bugs off? Er..less than one……

…err how about a deal – I’ll volunteer to clean the oil and bugs off…………for a flight? Don’t have a Magister in my log book……..yet 😉

Unfortunately I live too far from OW to assist, but I’d encourage anyone who isn’t yet a member of SVAS to join up. details at http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/svas1/index.html

go on, you know you want to 🙂

Cleaning the Shuttleworth machines

Well done all.

Such enthusiastic volunteers are the lifeblood of The Collection. As a charitable trust it is impossible to justify paying employees to do this.

I use a Halfords crawling board to scoot about under my machines in the hangar.

So many people come up to the fence and ask me for a flight. Conversely, how many have actually come up to me at the fence just to volunteer to help me get the oil and bugs off? Er..less than one……

The good news is that the Maggie cowlings have just been ‘luvved up’ so will hopefully look good for 05 without hours of elbow grease/ Solvol.

Seriously, any regular, reliable help given to me after each show will be rewarded in the best way possible. I can’t poach you guys – we need more!!

AIB,

I see you have dyed the old ‘Gnomex’ blue then and the trousers are still a bit tight under the arms.

Hi guys.

Which aircraft did you clean? What cleaning equipment did you use? What was the toughest bit to clean? Any regrets?

Having done two Sundays at Shuttleworth, I’d encourage any other members of this forum to join SVAS and then to come along – it’s all good fun and helps Shuttleworth.

Come on folks !!!
