Cliff Spink on flying the full airworthy Spitfire lineage

Article: https://vintageaviationecho.com/cliff-spink-spitfire/

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to sit down with Cliff Spink for a five hour interview, the subject of which was his journey through flying all of the airworthy Spitfire lineage, from Mark I to PR.XIX – the first time he’s discussed that subject for an article.

This interview has now been published as a major feature on The Vintage Aviation Echo website, linked above and below, illustrated by hand-picked John Dibbs photos and behind the scenes imagery from photographers George Romain and Harry Measures. The article details Cliff’s impressions of each mark, coupled with interesting anecdotes and recollections from a near 30-year warbird flying career. Amongst these are memories of flying with the Hannas, taking Spitfires into eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and emotional insight into his retirement from display flying last September. A remarkable man with a terrific story.

I was one of my favourites to write up, and I hope viewers here find it a worthwhile read.

Amazing piece of history – and of story-telling. Many thanks. Great to see such a good piece on this forum that has suffered so much in the past months.
