For some of you out there the nickname for the DH114 Heron was a clockwork Viscount. To make it easy for every one four piston engines to four R.R.Darts.
The Jersey based Heron G-AORG took a little trip today to meet the Viscount at Coventry, well thats not completelly true.
The Heron departed its normal home in Jersey to Coventry where Air Atlantique Aero Engineering is hopefully going to give it a new clean bill of health.
The aircraft is up there for a major sevice, not as in depth as the BBMF Lancaster.
All being well when she comes out there will be several years left in this unique aircraft as ahe is one of a small number in the world still flying and the only one in Europe she needs a lot of T.L.C as she has not goy a nice warm hangar to sleep in but being british built she can stand a lot of the British weather.
All being well she will be out and about for the on comming British Summer.

Stick your mate Craig behind a megaphone and emulate. That should give enough volume 😀

What a sight a Coventry in a month or so,s time could it happen? a line up of the following with all engines running
The Heron
The Lancaster
The Shackelton
The Viscount
Blimey N.P.V. I know it will be good to hear all these engines running but we need a bit longer for the Viscounts Darts to be running. We’re good, but not that good….:D 😀

There is a Continental powered machine in Sweden which seems airworthy and the former Admiral’s Barge N82D has been moved by air in the last year.

I think I’m right in saying that this is now the only airworthy Heron left in the world? If she is to stay here and in her Jersey Airlines colours, it would be nice if the livery could be completed with ‘JERSEY AIRINES’ and the registration letters applied to the wings to make the livery complete. Apparently, I was told ‘they just never got around to doing that’.

What a sight and sound
Some of the group have changed and there was the possibility that the aircraft might have to be sold to the one and only America if they could not find some more interest and backing.
The group members left I understand have found some new members, some of the problem is pilots as not many rated on the Heron and to get type rated costs money so it is not cheap to keep pilots in check.
All being well if all goes well on the check she will come out looking like a little lady and attract some new recruits.

For good measure although not a British aircraft a Douglas DC6
Could really rock the area with all those magic sounds in harmany.
I can almost picture the scence and the sounds now.

Great news! Does she still have the same group owning her, Alastair Layzell etc?
