can anyone verify that there was a near miss with a spitfire and a cessna? at the 1940s weekend at clumber park notts on sat 5 june. i did not get a good view myself but was aware of the spitfire doing its flypast and a light aircraft flying very close.
later there was an announcement that the planned dakota flypast had been cancelled because of the” idiot who was where he shouldnt have been”
from what i saw this seemed extremely close to a near disaster

With Clumber being a stones throw from Retford & Worksop I’ll keep an eye on the local rags for any info & let you know.
The only thing in either local rag was an article about the 1940’s weekend- sorry, no help I’m afraid.:(

That depends if the event had NOTAM’d Airspace, if it was an organised event with a CAA permision then it would have!!
Deffo NOTAM’d. I was bimbling around on Saturday and copped it.

No reference to the incident in either the Worksop Guardian or Retford Times, despite covering the event

didn’t see it well enough myself to say how close it was but it certainly got a response from the crowd and the light aircraft just seemed to head straight through the display area and was in front of the spitfire as it pulled up in a climbing turn

I’ve organised RAF flypasts for a number of events and informing relevant authority/s is part of the paperwork ‘pack’ that you’re expected to complete when making your bid, I forget exactly how it works but I believe one of the forms is sent to NATS. I was at Elvington when the Reds pulled out of their display due to airspace infringement, very disappointing for spectators and no doubt annoying for the display pilots and organisers. Full credit to the pilot of the Spitfire for their skill and judgement.

If it was a genuine air prox then it will be on CAA, and if they were involved, RAF/DASC records.

Unfortunate and potentially dangerous but i doubt it was illegal, unless the NOTAM mentions anything different. Just because it is an organized event doesn’t automatically seal off the airspace above it.
Would be interesting to see if the light aircraft filed an Airprox against the Spitfire
