CO at RAF Bruggen

When I was at RAF Bruggen during the 70s as an ATC cadet, I’m sure we were told that during WWII the CO was a
fighter pilot. That while operating over occupied Europe, one of his colleagues had to make a forced landing.
Whereupon the officer landed and got him to climb into his cockpit and flew him back home.

Can anyone confirm this, and give more details please ?

That’s probably William Crawford Crompton.

Thanks

Looks the most likely candidate. They must have been talking of a previous CO and not the (then) Present one.

He commanded RAF Bruggen in 1953 ….

Yes I know, but Crompton seems to be the only one that fits the bill.

Here’s a list of Station C.O.’s for Bruggen.
