CO flights to BHX.

This is sort of linked to the ‘CO to EDI’ thread.
If CO are starting a second daily service to BHX with another B752, wouldn’t be a similer operating cost to operating one B764 or B762 a day instead? because it would make more intersting pics, CO have sent thier B764s before but only in the busy summer months 🙂

It seems a bit odd to me that CO are operating 2 x 757s/day rather than 1 larger ac as at MAN/GLA; I assume that all the 767s and 777s are being used on other routes and there was a spare 757 that could be switched to transatlantic flights rather than domestic routes.

I flew Continental to Houston back in Feb 2001. These were the options then:

1. LGW; Direct B777 to IAH
2. BHX; B757 to EWR then B757 to IAH
3. MAN; B777 to EWR then B767 to IAH

Guess which one I went for…not BHX even though it’s nearest to my home. The B757 is one of my favourite ac but I refuse to fly on one transatlantic. LGW is too far from home really and only 2 flights so I opted for MAN. On the return trip I deliberately chose a DC10 flt from IAH to EWR; great ac but very dated after B767/777.

The officials CAA figures for April showed about 50% loads, althuogh that was the first month.
.

And remember the 2nd daily flight from BHX has only just started two days ago!

Oh rumours float, I saw on a.net that the Glasgow Emirates loads are apparently not very good at all, yet what I have read on here contradicts that, so I don’t know what to believe.

The flights certainly aren’t full for the summer as has been suggested, it is still very much possible to book multiple seats most if not all flights.

I don’t think CO and/or BHX will actually admit to that until the day it is cancelled, if it is. It’s just be a rumour floating around the forums. Although to give a very rough indication, look at the fare classes available:

28th June BHX-EWR:

1st flight: Cabin class: J5 D1 Z0 F0 Y9 H9 K9 N9 B2 V0 U0 Q0 I0 S0 W0 T0 X0 L0

second flight: J6 D5 Z5 F1 Y8 H8 K0 N0 B0 V0 U0 Q0 I0 S0 W0 T0 X0 L0

Well, I wouldn’t say that is too bad. If this one random date is doing ok, I don’t see why any other dates wouldn’t be.

Just as a quick comparison, EDI-EWR on the same date:

J3 D2 Z1 F0 Y4 H4 K0 N0 B0 V0 U0 Q0 I0 S0 W0 T0 X0 L0

Two daily BHX-EWR routes will offer more convenience to passengers than a single 767.

I just wished we could get a flight that arrived at EDI
around 10pm..it would certainly beat the jet lag.

Night stopped and left again at 6am would mean an 8 am
arrival in New York.

Second EDI service? Lets just be thankful we have one! 😀

Apparently CO and BHX are ‘concerned’ about the number of bookings or should I say lack of bookings on the second daily flight.

Source?

I know they would never send a larger aircraft for the purpose of getting better pics, just curious that’s all
Anyway don’t matter love the B757, my favourite aircraft of them all 😀

Isn’t the second flight timed 2 hours behind the first? Personally I think the second flight should depart later (maybe very late evening from EWR and late afternoon/early evening from BHX) to have given more flexibility in departure times.

No airline cares a damn if it makes more interesting pictures or not when deciding what aircraft will operate a route.
