why did you leave?

I only left Newcastle because I was offered the job at Monarch in Luton and it was a good step up for me career-wise. Luckily though, I got out of Gill before it all hit the fan – that would have just spoiled my memories of the company too much. I still love coming back up 3 or 4 times a year though to see my pals. When I’m back, it feels like I never left. It feels just as much a home to me as my actual home town, Dundee, does.

Never is a very strong word to use! It may not be an option at the moment but you never know what may happen in the future.

Ah right. No worries young ‘un.

As an aside, I’m up in the Toon next weekend – doubt I’ll make it to the airport though unfortunately. I do miss the old Gill place sometimes.

Dussledwarf, I forgot to mention that they didn’t go bust, that’s just what I thought had happened after they stopped the service. However, what I have been told by Newcastle Airport is that Bristol and Stansted will get Continental next summer, and Newcastle will possibly get one in either late 2005, early 2006. Sorry for any inconvienience.

I don’t think that American Trans Air (ATA) did go bust Ben. It seems that that may have been just a short summer charter series one (or a few) year(s). If it had have been so successful, I would have thought that it would have been repeated every year since. I’ll still be flabbergasted if CO fly from NCL to NYC – but it would be good to see this kind of service come to Tyneside nonetheless. 🙂

Right, American TransAir operated a short charter service from Newcastle to JFK in the summer of 1990 using Boeing 757’s. Around 8-10 rotations were made and the pax was very good. Thanks to Andy Hutchings for that (Air North).

I remember reading an article in Flight International about this, and I think that American Airlines and Continental Airlines are conducting feasability studies from EWR-BRS.

I will try and find the article and see what else it says

Looks like some more good news for STN if they do decide to go ahead. I know that before September 11th the pax numbers were actually very good, but after that they wanted to concentrate their efforts at the main airports, where all the money was. They always said the flight was cancelled ‘indefinately’.

Right, here’s the latest:
Newcastle Airport have said that they are in talks with Continental Ailrines about a Newar schedule either in late 2005 or early 2006. However, for all you Bristol and Stansted enthusuats, they are focusing Summer 2005 on your airports. So all in all, I would not be suprised if it happened at Newcastle, Bristol or Stansted.

I’m not sure, I know for a fact that it happened, I’ll ask Andy Hutchings.

Johnny is right, If I was you try and look into it a bit before saying owt. I know for a fact that people in Newcastle are desperate for a Newark flight. There was a daily one at Newcastle in the early 90’s, the pax was brill, but I think the airline went bankrupt.

Bmused55, you cannot say that it will NOT happen. Saying it like that suggests that it is a fact, and it isnt. You do not know that it will never happen. You may feel strongly against it however, and you may well THINK that it will never happen, but until CO say that it is an impossibility, theres always a chance.

In Airliner World a few months back I remember reading in the news that both American and Continental were doing a fesibility study into flying to BRS, haven’t heard anything about NCL though.
