I was just wonder, if you take a BrahMos AshM as a SSM which is mounted on a mobile launcher, could it be used as a Coastal Defence Battery to fire the missile at ships? I mean as long as it gets the coordinates/feed or whatever from other planes, AWACS, ships or subs or whatever?
This is the Brahmos SSM

Yes, and these could be pretty good if someone is planning to invade you via your coast or if the sea around you is pretty small and the ships get in there, they could be in for some Anti-Shipping.

I think the truck TEL thing is meant for the land-attack version…would be used to first wave attacks on hard static targets like radars , ammo storage and airbases.
India is building up a very ample stock of FAC/small ships each
armed with 16 Urans!!
Also the old missiles on Osa boats are now apparently truck mounted and used for coastal defence though I have never seen
a photo of it. It has a large warhead though obsolete in other
respects – good for striking at transport ships. SS-N-2A
range 46 km.
But I wonder – whos really in line to invade india next 🙂

Blast area could also take out a few of the smaller ships, thus it is still a valid point. Firing one of these missiles into a squadron of landing craft could knock out at least five in one hit, provided that they are travelling in a group and not line abreast or stagered line astern. So it is a question of how an group is planing on breaching a beach head and countering the effect, technically it is still possible. I remember in the RAN we talked about an experiment where landing craft were taken out with an AIM 7 Sparrow and a Roland SAM, the Roland did more damage, but the Sparrow had the advantage of being launched from the air.

I think the Indians do intend to use them that way as well.
From the Brahmos website
And while I agree with Garry, these weapons would be very hard to intercept, have very short flight times, and with large warheads and high supersonic kinetic energy, direct hits from a couple of them on anything lighter then a small frigate would mean the target literally disappearing! Larger than that, and you are very likely to mission kill the target. An effective weapon for the right target.

Brahmos, like the Yahkont it is based upon are large and expensive missiles that are very high performance things. Not every target warrants such a solution. A few dozen troop ships and another couple of landing ships to blunt an enemies attack would probably be better performed by large numbers of cheaper, smaller missiles… numbers being the key to overwhelm the attacking force.
