Could someone please assist?
I’m sure this is or was, a common piece of aeronautical equipment in the Navy – something to do with the steam slingshot or arrester hook system?
Anyhow, I don’t really know what it is (could it be one of those fangled “Long Weights” in a box?) and I’m intrigued – so please help.

Cool – do you have any more info – it deserves to go on the Hanger Deck in the Museum – a vital bit of kit, I would have thought.
Was it from Ark Royal or Eagle maybe?
Any idea how it works?

It doesnt look heavy enuf or long enuf to be a long weight, I think its a very early version of a thingybob? before they were automated.
