Cockpit-Fest 2018 – 23 & 24 June, 2018

Now that the invitations for the 2018 Cockpit-Fest event at Newark on 23rd & 24th June have been circulated & the first participants have been registered I thought that it was worthwhile to start the customary event thread about these parts.

The event info on the NAM website can be found in here!

Example of the event flyer that’s been in circulation for nearly 4 months is also attached.

The Cockpit-Fest winner details are now on the NAM website, these were held back at the request of the Grand Champion, so that the restorer of the winning Jet Provost cockpit could be notified first. Info in here http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Museum-Events

The best I can do with regard to photos is again pint to the NAM Cockpit-Fest photo gallery; a few more photos will be going in there shortly!! http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/2018_Cockpit-Fest_Gallery

Also later today there should a brief write-up going onto the FlyPast website.

This preliminary gallery was posted on the museum website on Saturday evening – more will no doubt follow!

http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/2018_Cockpit-Fest_Gallery

Result details held over at the request of one of the winners!

Timing of the 2019 event TBC – factors to take into account: Father’s Day (some say good, others bad); Newark Festival (Father’s Day weekend, good or bad???); World Cup effect on Sunday footfall – watch this space!!

First bookings for Autumn Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble on 13th October already in place after Saturday – booking forms will be emailed out soon to those people who replied to GDPR email in May; initial mailing will be small – only one third of people bothered to reply!

There’s always next year Mr D. Work yesterday and morning commitments today meant we had to stay at home this year unfortunately.

I went on Saturday. Great aerojumble, lovely line up of cockpits, fab weather, and met up with plenty of friends.
Personal favourite display was the Brigand.

The last update I had (Thursday 5pm) there were 34 booked in on Saturday and 14 on Sunday; plus it is anticipated that some cockpit displays will also have items for sale.

Quick Guide to the whole event via this weblink http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Cockpit-Fest_18_Quick

Gates open to buyers/visitors at 9am on Saturday & 10am on Sunday – there’s a cash only access point directly off the Southfield Site into both parts of the event!

Also hearing that the cockpit list has changed again with some last minute additions and one no show!

As suspected, this tweet has just gone onto the museum timeline:

“Confirmation now in that the #Shackleton AEW.2 #cockpit that is coming to #CockpitFest18 is #WL756 ‘Mr Rusty’ – superb addition to the event!
This photo from #NAMarchive shows the #aircraft type, but not specifically #WL756

This year there does seem to be a number of cockpits that will only be there on Saturday, hence making it the busiest day – that is a first and perhaps mirrors the busier Aeroboot/Aerojumble day as well.

As for the Shackleton cockpit the only previous participant that I can find is T.4 VP293, which may be back at Newark in September for the Shackleton Boys book launch event.

From what I have been able to find out so far I believe the new participant mentioned this evening could be the AEW.2 cockpit ‘Mr Rusty’ from WL756; still awaiting confirmation.

Looking through the list of attendees (via the above link) it looks like the best day to attend is the Saturday as this has the most cockpits attending ??
Howard do you know what Mark the Shackleton is which is attending? I seem to recollect a Mk1 which attended some years back, wonder if it’s the same one?
