Cockpits for Cottesmore

This year will see the last ever families day at cottesmore, for the last few years i’ve been organising a small collection of cockpits and other items that are displayed to aid help for heros and also add some variety for the families there

for this final year i was wondering if any of the cockpit owners out there, with any aircraft related to cottesmores history would like to join in, I’m hoping that the lightning and scout from brunty will attend as well as Ricky Mclain’s hunter F4 cockpit but i’m open to suggestions, i should be around briefly at Newark at the weekend and will mention it to a few there, it would be nice to get a canberra and an early harrier as they have particular significance to cottesmores history.

The only previso is that the owners have liability insurance, i can arrange local risk assesments and indeed there should be a limited amount of cockpit access steps or staging for use

The event is held on a Friday (exact date to follow) but the owners would also get a free mini airsho and a slice of history out of it, as well as raising funds for a worthy charity, by asking a small donation for access to the cockpits as well as championing there own individual projects

Thanks Cpl Matt Wainwright

the problem we can have is that it’s a ‘families’ day and therefore not technically public, however with all the friends that come it can get quite big, the vulcan effect 2 years ago considerably swelled the numbers, maybe she’ll be flying by then this year.

the core cockpits will be from brunty there might be a way off temporarily including any other cockpits under the Phoenix Aviation Museum AKA what newark do i’ll have to ask Nev Martin to see if he’s prepared to do it, as there will be at least 3 of his old boys supervising as per last year. If not i’ll have toi see if Ricky McLain is willing

Got to be honest on this one, most people don’t have insurance cover for their cockpits,(other than when on a trailer on the road) and rely on the events own insurance to cover them.

Public liability is needed for any public contact with the display, without which, the canopies and doors will (should) remain shut; you will get a far better response, by putting them on your events cover.

Matt,

2366 (Bletchley Park) ATC has the cockpit section of Hunter F6 XF522 ex 92 Sqn on strength. As far as I know it has no association to Cottesmore but might be a welcome addition. If you can give me some dates as to when famlies day might be I will speak to the CO to see what the availability might be.

‘Canberra’ Matt – I might be able to offer some limited guidance about insurance; I’ll look out for you at the weekend! 🙂

I might have someone else in the Stamford area looking for a cockpit at an event!
