My last visit of the year to Duxford was going to be weather dependant and as the Tuesday weather report was consistent with being wall to wall sunshine, I had a wander down on the off chance of catching a bit of flying. I was not disappointed.
The Grace Spitfire was out on the field and was flown by Carolyn followed by young Mr Grace. The desert Spitfire, Mmmm something was different about it, was parked on the grass in ‘Area 51’ and was soon joined by the ‘Buchon’. The Spit and Fennec went up in the morning for what looked like a photo shoot for the Spits new contours. The Fennec did a few beat ups and then the Spit was thrown around the sky. In the afternoon the Spitfire went up with John Romain and he threw it around the Duxford skies and this was followed by a display by the ‘Buchon’.

Cold it was but an enjoyable visit all the same that turned out better than I had hoped for.
Roll on next year.

That’s the first Stampe I’ve seen with a flat engine. Anyone know how many more there are around?
IIRC one of the several Stampes on display in the Brussels Museum has a flat engine.

That’s a Lycoming 180hp conversion, it’s quite common these days.
I’d guess there are about 10-15 of them flying already.

BEAUTIFUL
Lovely stuff … I have to say though that whenever I see a “Luftwaffe” Buchon it looks wrong to me (Merlin!). I’d like someone, somewhere to put up a Spanish Air Force Buchon!

Great pictures and what a luxury that you can go to Duxford so often.
It’s only 22 miles away, 35/40 minutes on my little bike down the A14/M11 or just under 2 hours on the bus.:D
Thanks for your comments everybody and I have posted some more on my fotopic gallery HERE

I think the ‘Brucey’ chin gives that a/c a particular character.
Changes to a/c configurations and schemes provides the toggies with another excuse to zap off a few more memory cards.

Hi all, I wondered about tropical filter, maybe to much cold air going in & engine not performing properly.
Steve
Toms toy set ( not that the other chin cowl is not intact ) no other reason
