Cold War Historical Flight

Hi Everyone,

Because there are a number of ex Cold War type aircraft still flying thanks to
to efforts of people who work a lot of hours to keep these birds alive and not
to have certain types fade away. If a Cold War Heritage flight ever came into
being, which I don’t think could happen without big sponsership to preserve
the Sterling work done By the British Armed Services all over the World during the “At the push of a button” period of our lives. People forget these people
who were always at the ready to go if the time came and thank Christ it never happened. If there was a Flight out and about, what other aircraft would you like to see flying along side the Big Delta-wing piece of kit of which
people have worked hard to get off the ground, so we could remember these
people.

JJ.

Wave four The British Army flight, Beaver Lynx Wessex.

I doubt you’ll find too many agreeing to you putting the Wessex in that line-up! 😉

How about adding Skeeter, Scout and Gazelle?

What, no Scimitar?

I’d love to see an F-8 Crusader in action, and an F-101 Voodoo as long as it didn’t try to turn any corners. A MiG 25 or 31 would be very nice indeed thankyou.

The Buccs and Sea Vixens go without saying. And I don’t see any Hunters in anyone’s lists. There are still a few flying, sure, but I’d love to see HHA’s immaculate pair of F58s in their retro European theatre camo! Paint up the HHA Bucc in wraparound green/grey with a Hunter on either wing and I’ll buy a ticket or three.

… they chose to stand behind the aicraft and in fact to do so had trespased into an unsafe area that was closed to the public.

Seems a foolish thing to do….they produce a LOT of power.

I remember once at Dyess I was standing on a balcony facing west as a B-1 took off from the N-S runway, backlit by the remnants of a beautiful Texas sunset. It was dusk, the reheat was on and you could see the flames stretching 20-30 feet in back of the bomber.
When the sound hit you like a shockwave…setting of several car alarms in the parking lot.

Anyone remember the two at
Cottesmore that year who ended up with what was it, 20% burns. I don’t think they will try that number again

Oh yes I remember that incident rather well lol – it was alot more than 2 people who were burnt but in all honesty most people sufferd only minor burns or cuts.

After the incident a number of those who got hurt were trying to sue the MOD and RIAT and the pilots of the B1-B despite the fact they chose to stand behind the aicraft and in fact to do so had trespased into an unsafe area that was closed to the public.

God yes please, a cold war flight, why hasn’t this been discused sooner?;) Sea Vixen paired with Bucc possibly a gannet thrown in for the ASW side of things as the FAA contribution. Lightning paired with Vulcan as the QRF RAF contribution. Last but not least a brace of Gnats and Jet Provosts for the Flight training.:diablo:

i think that the TU-160 has much more presence (personally) and though both are fairly similar in looks, the 160 to me is far more impressive, now 4 or 5 B1b’s i might be interested 😀 all are beautiful aircraft, its just that a Tu-160 is not an oft seen type 🙂

throw in a Tu-160 blackjack, and i may be interested 😉

I’m sure the USAF would be happy to supply a B-1B.

Hi JesseJames,

proceedings start at 1000 on Sunday, hangar tours carry on all day, with the Dakota flying at regular intervals. The Shackleton is due to run mid afternoon, and again at around 1600-1630, alongside the DC6. You can indeed sit on board the Shackleton, which can be booked on the day… ( I will check on the price!)

See you on Sunday!

Will

cold war memorial flight

personally i’d love to see a B-36 and a Bear followed closely by a B-58/TU22 Blinder combination in a flying display (but then, i’d quite like a steamy relationship with Kelly Brook- just as likely, i suppose!!!)

OK, no Lightnings or Buccaneers (although we hope to have a sit-in) Buccaneer cockpit at our December 16th open day…

Airworthy Meteor, Twin Pioneer, Venom, Vampire, Canberra, Devon…. (or at least nearly airworthy in some cases…), the makings of a private ‘Cold War Memorial Flight’….:)

See www.classicflight.com, or come to visit us next weekend at Coventry!

(I ought to point out, so as not to cause dissapointment) that the Vapmpire and Meteor will not be there on the 16th as they are undergoing winter maintenance at Kemble…. But there will be a Shackleton/DC6 joint engine run, and one of our Dakotas flying all day!

I wonder how many Hunters could be made available to do a fly past with the Vulcan? Or even get the Sea Vixen up for one show?

Regards,

Dan

From my conversations with Rob Moffat at Thunder City a few years ago, it was mentioned that the fleet operates to strict control within South African airspace only, so flights to this country are a non starter unless there has been a relaxing in South African permit to fly regulations.

crying shame 🙁

How about a formation of Vulcan B52 and Bear at Legends.

Now I like that idea… :p

If Putin keeps his games going – they might as well “divert” one from one of their missions!!! If only the MOD would be happy with that….. 😀 😀

Should in theory be just the same as any number of foreign registered aircraft atttending a U.K air display. However there is a lot of AVTUR between the U.K and S.A to be burnt!

If an airshow did want to bring some of Thunder city’s or another companys ex milatry jets over for an airshow (even just for the static display) what would the CAA view the idea like – would they have any serrious objections to an aircraft simply flying into an airshow for a static display then flying back home after the airshow ?

ill definitely be there, thought without massive support in terms of fuel and maintenance, i can’t see the lightnings making the 10,000 mile flight from cape town, to fairford, considering that would mean something like 20-30 refuelling stops! god, can you imagine it though FOUR lightnings full reheat climing vertically with the vulcan whilst the buccaneers thunder underneath at full whack!!! the americans would have a clue what hit them! that would be a truly staggering sight, one i fear we shall never see, unless the vulcan goes south 🙁
