Every year, on Father’s Day (do they have such an observance in the UK?), I plan some sort of excursion with my three kids. This year we attended the Wheels & Wings Weekend at the Collings Foundation in nearby Stow, Massachusetts. Since the exhibit in Massachusetts is rarely open to the public, and since most of these particular aircraft don’t tour, I thought my fellow forumites might like to see a few photos. They are hardly high quality, as I’m certainly not a practiced photographer, but at least Mr. Kodak managed the exposure settings quite well. My three “babies” are in front of the Fokker.
The microcars that you see in some of the photos do not belong to the Collings Foundation. They are part of a separate collection owned by a certain Charles and Nancy Gould and were brought in just for this event. As far as I know, they are all completely operational. Outside, there were rides for sale in the PT-17, along with perhaps six or eight RC models of various descriptions. A separate barn holds a wonderful collection of antique and classic automobiles, but it is quite cramped and thus difficult for photography.
I would have liked to take more photos and make some notes, but the day was brutally hot, especially indoors where the aircraft are kept, and we were happy to split for ice cream after a couple of hours. Accordingly, if you want more information about individual aircraft, you will have to go to the Collings Foundation website at http://www.collingsfoundation.org . Enjoy…
