Cologne

Hi,

Next stop after my visit to Dusseldorf was Cologne.

Showers started around midday, and by the time I left Dusseldorf at about 3:30 the showers had merged into continual rain. As I drove south (and it only takes about half an hour) the rain increased, and things were sufficiently torrential by the time I arrived at Cologne I seriously considered abandoning my plans.

However, while there was no way I would have gone out in such conditions in the UK, I hadn’t travelled that far to be defeated by the weather, so I found my umbrella and decided to make the most of the rather wet evening.

I hadn’t been at the airport for long when UPS MD-11 N275UP arrived:-

Further MD-11 action was provided by Fed Ex, but N918FD was of greater interest to me, being the first of the airline’s 757s I have seen:-

There is a lot of freighter action at Cologne, with Egyptair A300 SU-GAC being a nice surprise:-

The freighters don’t have the airport to themselves, though, and Germanwings A319s were forever coming and going during my stay:-

Air Berlin are to be found at most German airports:-

Ryanair are to be found seemingly everywhere these days as well:-

The most interesting passenger flight was Austrian Fokker 70 OE-LFL:-

This aircraft arrived just after 8pm, after which I decided it was time to find my digs for the night and try to dry out!

I hope the photos are of interest – more from CGN can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/indiaecho/

Good stuff there Neil. What a shame about the weather. Egyptair Cargo lovely ! We had same situation at Frankfurt in June 2010 – it was throwing it down so we drove up to Dusseldorf and it was sunny all day. The difference a hundred or so miles makes.

Despite the weather, some good pics. Great to see the Egyptair, and in the old ‘blue tail’ colours as well!:)
