Just been doing some low fare browsing and through the BMI Baby partnership cam across Germanwings, who I always thought were one of these high fare low frills airlines, more like EZY than FR. However they are offering reasonable flight times 0800-0900 departures from LGW and STN to make a day trip to Cologne.
The airport there has a viewing terrace and a reasonable list of flights in and out, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in joining me on Saturday 8th May, where London fares are less than £30 return all in.
There are also flights fro EDI and DUB and many other EU destinations, but EDI especially was, erm, rather expensive 😮

Dusseldwarf and I thoroughly recommend Germanwings. They are very impressive, especially when we went with them in February 2003 from STN for £1 each way including taxes!!!

I done a check on the prices a little while ago and can’t find any of the cheap fares. I can only really get to London Gatwick Airport, since low-cost heavens like Luton and Stansted are not accessible via public transport.

if Germanwings is all sold out you can also try Hapag Lloyd Express. They are also big there.
I won’t be coming, i have been there once and find it quite a dull place. Most of the movements are at night when UPS wakes up.

If the fare is still available upon my return from Thailand, I’ll be up for it, that’s for sure. I’m sure a day off of work can easily be arranged.

I’d most certainly be up for going to Cologne for the day from Gatwick. I will have just finished my JAR ATPL Phase 1 ground exams that week so I think it would be a very fitting way to celebrate!
